This is a trip to Hitchin lavender fields in heart of the Hertfordshire. This will be an afternoon trip. There is a train service from London Kings cross going to Hitchin which takes about 50min However there is no drect transport from railway station to the lavender fields so this is either a 2.4 mile walk or taxi ride.

Cadwell Farm who run the lavender fields have a very open approach to photographers and positively welcome us along. There is also a café and shop there as well as the chance to pick your own lavender.

This walk will only be going ahead if the weather is going to be ok. Also for anyone wishing to stay there is the opportunity to photograph sunset as long as we ask in advance again this will be weather dependent.

This is just down the road from where I live, would love to come, will sort out work schedule
I'm up for this! Is anyone else travelling from Kings Cross? We could share a taxi or the walk?
uɐʍoƃɔɯ uıɐp PRO 3 years ago
Yep... There will a few going via Kings Cross.
Taxi should be no more than a couple pounds each!
Shall we arrange to meet at Kings X? I'm slightly anxious about the amount of Olympic traffic that will be there. I've checked and the trains are regular. There are no group travel discounts it seems but a return is £16.90. There is a carnet option with 9 tickets for the price of 10 should there be enough of us travelling but I'm not sure that saves a massive amount of money when split between 5 of us.

Ill be driving there so don't count me in the equation I should be able to fit some people in my car.

I was hopeing that kings cross would be less busy as it's further from the Olympics.
The Javelin fast train to Stratford runs from Kings X so I think it's going to be crazy for the whole of the Olympics.

Brony I assumed most of the traffic would go either via the tube or Liverpool street I was not aware they also running from kings-cross. I was hopping I picked some where a little less busy.
I think it's from St Pancras but the whole area will still be busy. I'm still up for attempting to get out of London for the day, although I need to see how packing up my flat is going. The sunshine has derailed me somewhat!

what time are you planning on meeting up.I might be able to make it,if I do I will have 2 maybe 3 places in the car to pick people up from the station.

Guys I have spoken with the Hitchin and there is a slight issue with Saturday as they have a wedding on so the fields will be shut after 5pm. While they are not stopping us going there you will not be able to stay once everyone is gone. There is no way of gauging how many people will be there in the afternoon if people being in the shot is an issue

if you do wish to go there will only be around 3h in there if we go for 2pm otherwise we could look at moving this to future date like Sunday.

Please let me know what you guys wish to do.
I think I'm going to pull out anyway as I'm moving on Monday and have a million things to do. Plus the travel during the Olympics looks like a nightmare.

Adrian, that's a shame about Hitchin on Saturday. From previous experience, post 5pm is the better light so it is probably better to move the date.

How about Sun 29?

It sure is, just unlucky as I'm sure they don't do that many weddings.

I was thinking of Sunday however It's normally my local Chelmsford group walk that day as it's the last Sunday of the month.

I also need to come straight from my piano lesson which finish at 1. so I guess we would make it the around the same time Sunday not sure what the trains are like though.

I've post in my other group as a suggestion and ill decide tomorrow lunchtime. Stephen or others feel free to let me know if you would consider coming Sunday,

Adrian, I can't do this Sunday either, shame if we can't do tomorrow
edwardhorsford PRO 3 years ago
Shame about the evening - that was attracting me. I'd vote to move, but since I'm busy on Sun, doesn't matter too much to me.
uɐʍoƃɔɯ uıɐp PRO 3 years ago
I can do Sunday instead if anyone else is up for it!

I happy to either move it to this Sunday or next if that's easier to others.
konfral 3 years ago
I'm not 100% sure if I can make this Sunday right now, but I suggest that those who can, should make the most of relatively good weather, as it's not guaranteed for next weekend ;-)
uɐʍoƃɔɯ uıɐp PRO 3 years ago
..... next weekend, as well as Ely cathedral??
Patrick Mayon PRO 3 years ago
I'll prefer sunday too.
RusseRousse 3 years ago
Sunday as in tomorrow?! That works for me.
I can't make tomorrow so I'll pull out. I might investigate a weekday trip once I've moved house....

Dain I was thinking more of either Sunday. If most are up for tomorrow then that's fine however I've checked the weather and it looks like it might rain towards the end of the afternoon.
uɐʍoƃɔɯ uıɐp PRO 3 years ago
Elina and I are aiming for the 1506 from kings cross. We should be in the fields around 4pm ish.
I'm assuming the others who have said Sunday 29th is an option for them (Stephen, Ade and Patrick) would be driving, so hope to see you there!

Dain you really need to contact them in the morning to make sure they are ok as like today they may have reasons why they cannot allow you to stay beyond closing time. I would also suggest contacting those who could not make today ie Oscar, lionsze

Dain there will be a lady coming by train called Charlotte however she only posted on meetups page. Would you be kind enough to post a meeting point at kings cross so that it's possible for her to meet you guys
uɐʍoƃɔɯ uıɐp PRO 3 years ago
Ok... I dropped a message for Charlotte.
And I called the farm, there are no events on today!

jtweed 3 years ago
Sunny, but very cloudy. Quite windy. About to get hit by two big rain clouds but they should pass through shortly.
jtweed 3 years ago
Just started to rain - turns out one of those big dark clouds and rain was a thunderstorm! Currently chucking it down, but should have passed through for you by 3pm.

Crazy, I used to live on Cadwell Farm!
If you turn right at the farm and go down the track away from the Lavender there's a bungalow (which I used to share with friends). Out the front is a Christmas tree field and a monkey puzzle tree we planted for a friend who passed away in 2006.
I'd love to see the images!
