This is a walk around the city of Canterbury and it's cathedral. The walk will start at 11:00am from Canterbury east station (as I guess most will be coming by train), Those coming by train should be able to get the 9:33 train from Victoria which will arrive at 11am. Please be aware there are 2 stations that service Canterbury and the other one is across town from the start of the walk, if you end up at west station then you will need to make your away across to the route.
There is now a map with details of walk places we will visit and the pub stops on the way. please see the ITINERARY link below
I have already contact the cathedral who would be happy for us to shoot there, with the only exception being the crypt, which is out of bounds to photograph. Cost of entering the cathedral would be 6.50 under a group ticket.

I'd be interested - my little brother is at uni down there and I haven't visited yet, so I might disappear at some point to see him, but it'd be good to wander around down there with the posse.

I'm unfortunately already double booked for the 18th, otherwise I would have come too, the cathedral is stunning!
lost in space!

Would have loved to come to this but will be on some basic Bushcraft weekend.

I've already signed up for the Scott Kelby photowalk in Guildford on this day; should take me significantly less time to get there than to Canterbury; however I could always change my plans if there's a photowalk in Canterbury. Why is life so difficult?
Cmartin I'm hoping to set this up as a Scott kelby photowalk. Need to register and hope they allow me to be one.
Ps
Come Chris you known you would love Canterbury cathedral. ;-)

Chris, I read about the Scott Kelby photowalk in Guildford. And even though I live in Guildford, I am not actually signing up for it!! Too many shoppers. If my work schedule allows I am definitely going to Canterbury.

I can assure you, the number of times I have walked round Guildford, I'd much rather do Canterbury on the day !

OK. I will be catching the 9:33am from Victoria. Anyone going to be joining me on the train??
Definitely going to Canterbury (no work that weekend).
@Paolo G: I will be joining you on the 9.33am.

I would like to join this meet as I have not been in one for a little while...but as usual I'm working on a weekend =(
Should be up for this one ? - only catch is that I've got an advance ticket for RIAT Airshow at Fairford for either day that weekend (18&19th), so if weather is kushti both days, should be no probs ;-)

I'd like to go too! I suppose I could get up on a Saturday early enough to catch the 9:30 train [sigh], but do we need to book our train tickets this early?

I will check out the train situation and see if we can get two-for-one deals. If you haven't heard back from me by this time next week give me a nudge.

i'm not a big fan of cathedral but I have never been to canterburry. It will be different than Brands Hatch as I was planing to go for the WTCC event.

Have emailed Southern Trains to see if they do the 2/3 for 1 ticket deals like the ones we got when we went to Cambridge.
Patrick it will be nice to have you if you come please if do say yes on he sign up link, as you can also then enter your photos in the grand completion and little one I get to host.

OK here are the details for the train from London.
London Victoria - 9.33am arriving at 10:59 Canterbury East.
You can get a Four for Two deal where four people travel for the price of two and the price works out to be under £11 per person. You all have to travel together there and back.
I will be buying tickets for:
Myself
David Kittos
Elina and a friend of hers.
I would suggest that anyone else wanting to do the same post a message here so that people can arrange go get the cheaper price.

Paulo - leaves Victoria 9:33 and arrives at Cambridge East - is that a typo???
Close to 1 1/2 hours to get to Canterbury seems excessive; will look into this a little more during the coming week.

Seemed a bit long to me too. I have booked for four os us as previously mentioned but I would advise anyone else coming to wait until we are all together to see if we can get another group of four together to take advantage of the four for two deal.

You've missed it... It arrives in Canterbury East, not Cambridge East.
I can get a train from Waterloo East but I don't know if it's the one that leaves from Victoria... and the journey time from Victoria is 1 hour 26 mins (or longer for some other departure times)

Leica0000 Has kindly provided a photo and depending on what time I get home tonight I will post it to this thread so that we have a meeting place at Victoria for those of us going by train. I suggest we meet at 9:10am so that people can meet before buying tickets and get together for a 4for2 deal saving them money.

If we meet in front of HMV in the photo at 9:10am that will give people a chance to sort out who hasn't got a ticket and then get their tickets together.
See you there.
See you there.

Cheers for sorting this out Paolo if anyone who is coming please make sure you register on photowalk site. I can only give the prize for the best photo out to people who have register.

I can't register there since I am already registered for the Guildford walk !
You do not appear to be able to "unregister", I have even e-mailed the Guildford organiser asking if I can no-show if it's dry as I will then go to Canterbury instead.
Weather-permitting (ie not like today's downpour) I will meet Paul and the others at Victoria; I'll get my through-ticket from FNB when I leave

Hi
I'm new to the group & hope to see you on Saturday (thanks to David for the invitation:)
I just found out that the Victoria Line is closed all weekend, so that may impact some peoples journey to Victoria Station, depending on where you're coming in from.
(These are all the weekend closures: info)
cheers

Thanks Paul For that I was going to put that up later this evening
Also guys you will now find that you will be able to upload your photos to the photowalk site. This is the only place I will be choosing from to decided who wins the free prize that each walk has.
I have confirm with Canterbury cathedral that we are still good to go. I have informed them we should get to them around 12:00ish depending on the weather we should be in there for around 1h .
Hope to see you all tomorrow.

If you are driving and going near station road you may want to read this:
www.kentonline.co.uk/kentish_gazette/news/2009/july/17/pw...
This maybe the other station to the one we are going but they will be parading so you'll want to keep away from the route.
Cheers, Paul

Thanks from me too Adrian. Very enjoyable but long and tiring day, and the rain held off too.
Must try to go through my photos today, had a quick look last night when I got home and am generally pleased even if there are none worthy of entering for "shot of the day".

Correction to upcoming tag - it should be upcoming:event=2789293 (not upcoming=event:2789293... I copied this and changed the numbers for the big geek day out event but it wasn't showing up as a machine tag until I worked out that the '=' and ':' were the wrong way round. Thought I should say something so you don't have to retag everything.)
Thanks to my self for a really nice day out.
Or should I say thanks guys for coming and making it a really nice day out.

Adrian, I am sure, had fun... haven't you seen my shot of ice-cream on the lens? It's his hands and his lens. and he must have done a hell of a lot of work on researching the walk and the stops beforehand, because he walked us round as if he were a local. I was lost after a couple of hundred yards! and needed the handout that Adrian had carefully prepared.
Edited for typos :-(

Thanks Kathryn, I did notice it but couldn't work out which way around. All corrected and perfect now :))
Thanks guys Don't for get to up load your photo to scott kelby photowalk site for a chance to win that prize. It has to be from the start of the walk until we left Canterbury cathedral as photowalk part can only be 2hs long
@Heart & Soul: I wasn't aware of this restriction you mentioned and the website won't let me delete a picture I submitted (which I took later in the afternoon). It's the green flower. My username on Scott Kelby photowalk website is: dkayuk. Can you please delete it for me? I want to replace with another one. Cheers.
Guys I forgot to mention that beside it only being up and including the cathedral you can only submit 2 photos so choose wisely they must be on the site by July 25, 11:59 pm EST

You should have got some e-mails from the Scott Kelby site if you registered for the walk.
I have not yet gone through to tag my photos, but I see someone has been tagging somne of them on my behalf !
Extract from the SK e-mail:
Remember to log into www.worldwidephotowalk.com and upload your TWO images there. You can also use the Lightroom plugin to upload your images as well. That information is also on the www.worldwidephotowalk.com page, so just go sign in there and check out the videos at the Dashboard.
You can only submit TWO images for consideration. As Scott Kelby says, "Professional photographers are experts at finding their best shots, and only showing those." Please, give your walk leaders a hand and just keep it to two.
Deadline for submitting images is Saturday July 25, 2009 at 11:59PM EST.
Winners will be announced on August 17, 2009.

Sorry Patrick due the walk only be aloud to be 2 hours long I had to make a decision that the start of the walk was part of it. Not my choice I'm afraid.
Bump to say please feel free to add your 2 best shots to the web site for chance to win a free prize. I've seen some great photos from the first part of the shoot up-to and including the cathedral. These would look great on the photowalk site at the moment it's look a little bear.
