I was just trying to check the state of play for the Linux version of LZ... and it seems to have dissapeared completely.

I realise it was never supported nor charged for .... so I can't really complain.. but I was wondering if people had heard or seen anything on the forums etc. ???

I check the LightCrafts forums pretty much every day and I have not seen anything there about v3 on Linux. One of the LightCrafts forum moderators, Jacek Gozdz, uses LZ on Linux. Maybe go to the forum and try to get in touch with him to see what he knows.
Thanks...
Its not like its just no announcments the links for the old versions have also dissapeared... whereas there used to be 2-3 downloads of older versions etc. the whole area has dissapeared...

Yikes! I hope I kept the tarball for 2.4 on my desktop.

Maybe they got tired of nerds like me who have dual-boot systems running it on Linux rather than shelling out for the Windows version.

It'll be sad if it's really gone, as it was great having such a useful RAW editor on my Linux installs.
Wow, thanks Hodgepodge, that page explains everything...

I'd buy LightZone of they actually sold it for Linux., no problem but I'm not buying the Windows version just hoping....or about to buy Windows just to run it...
"A great service" is almost an understatement....
I really would gladly pay money for it ....
I have to add that the evolution of lightzone has been great... it hasn't stood still and its added new camera support etc. which is really cool... as well as getting more powerful so I'm really glad the V3 has come out and dying to try it...

I thought of copying the page you linked then thought better of it ... since it really should be read in context....

FYI, I asked Anton (the guy who ported it to Linux) and he said don't expect it any time soon. You can email lightzone and tell them you'd rather buy the Linux version w/ the Windows version for another $25 so you can use both if you want just to show there's interest.
Lightzone 3.0 is much faster than 2.4 so it's a shame not to have it on Linux :-P

Pretty sad news. When I read their statements about co-operation with the community etc. I was really glad, but probably that was a bit too full-bodied to be taken seriously.

Along with their relaunched website they may have undergone a change towards a much more profit-oriented business than a bunch of developers with an excellent product they can sell.

Maybe still too early to write the obituaries, but definitely no bright future for us free/open source software linux users
