Straight processing
Cardinal Lemoine

and with LightZone
lighzone processed-metro-small
eek, I'll try but its a lot of messing...
Mostly its a zone using the straight tool more or less diagnally across the floor and steps ... heck its hard to describe... anyway I cut out the shadow bits on the left followed the steps and then out to the street on the right... (it would be easier to take a snapshot and upload it but Im outa BW for this month...

To this I really pulled out the mid tones from the shadows... uzing zone mapper and used the contrast... all done in color at this point...
I then played with the channel mixer and found a setting that brought out the yellow light from the doors and windows... and also increased luminosity and sat over this area...
I think I then converted it into B&W and ran the noise filter...
It actually took a LONG time... a lot longer than taking the photo.... but I think it was worth it...
Then using the clone tool I cloned the window and set it to negation ... and twisted it to fit... over the very faint shadow that was lost... you can just see a hint on the other photo...(viewed large) but I had it a little better and just put the clone over at 50%...
I did some more less drastic playing with the walls and tried toning down the interior but at this point I figured I'd played enough!

Explaining our processing in words is always difficult... but I like the result. It's better in many subtle ways and it's never overdone.

P.S. I really like this idea of showing an image before and after, I started an official topic for this:
