Please post your experiences with Lightzone. What features do you like? What features don't you like? I'm interested to hear how you work with this software, and learning new tricks for creating images with it.

I like to switch back and forth between the histogram view and the zone mapping view as I work on an image. The zone mapping view gives me a sense of where my edits will take place, which gives me a chance to zero in on different areas. I like to use the histogram in creating high contrast black-and-white images.

In working with greyscale images, I would like to see a more sophisticated mixer. I would prefer sliders that give more nuance in adjusting tones (red, yellow, green, blue, cyan, and magenta rather than just red, green, blue) and better auto-balancing of the final result.

How about you? What do you think?

I installed the trial version yesterday, and I'm in love with it.

I'm doing burning and dodging, and selective contrast, for the very first time. I tried to do the same in Photoshop and it looks very awkward in comparison. My only problem with Lightzone is that I only have a company laptop with 512Mb, which can't be upgraded, and so performance is low. Lightroom is much worse though, that's plain unusable.

Here's my first image with Ligthzone:

Three weeks later: my experience has been so positive that I just purchased the 2.0 version. I only regret it is rather slow, I'll have to upgrade my PCs.
