Hardsuit contest (closed)

I guess this is the right place to put this.

Anyway, after the great success of our Legendary Creature Contest on Classic Space, Lukas and I have decided to host a new contest.

We give you, THE GREAT HARDSUIT CONTESTY THINGY! Yes, that is the official name, but you can call it the GHCT for short.

The categories go as follows:

Harsuits that do not hold a whole minifig.

An example would be Jeremiah Vandermark's Crusader.

The next category consists of hardsuits that do hold a whole minifig.

An example of this would be my Cherubim. (shameless plug)

Finally, sort of as a challenge, I offer you the idea of a hardsuit that holds a hardsuit that doesn't hold a minifig. Think of a combination of the first and second category. I won't really be considering this an official category unless it receives entries though.

NEW MOCS ONLY

If you have any questions or an entry, just send me or Lukas a FlickrMail.

Deadline is August 31st.

Does the hardsuit have to be completely humanoid?

gIadius says:

Nope, but try to differentiate it from a mecha. Don't make it larger than say... 4" tall and 3" wide.

here's an example of a non-humanoid hardsuit, if you want.

I would offer the rest of nori's gallery is great inspiration as well...

Dang it. I don't have many parts that could be potentially used as joints that aren't technic hole-with-axle pieces.

I guess I have no chance in this contest. I drew a picture while bored today of a battle armor with a scaled down version of these legs

brickcommander.com/anubis.htm

but, with that height restriction, I'm out.

I just don't want this to turn into a mecha contest :P

Maybe we could have a small mecha contest as well? Maximum size of 8 inches tall, 6 inches wide?

I like making hardsuits, but I don't have the parts to be competitive. Small mechs, though...

I'll have to say no, if we wanted a small mecha contest we'd host one. Just build, then send us the images and we'll judge whether it's a hardsuit or not.

I'd call your Cherubin a small mecha, Taylor ;) Good competition and one I'd love to enter but probably can't... oh well.

Don't like entering old stuff, even if it's allowed (which I assume it isn't).

I don't exactly mind entering old stuff, but I'd really rather you didn't. This contest is sort of supposed to spark new ideas, not just show me old ones.

Yeah that's what I figured Taylor. I reckon you'd be better off explicitly forbidding them (or at the judges discretion for modifications).

The suit itself is within guidelines, though does an antenna or two coming up from the back count towards the height?

I talked it over with Lukas and we decided that his modifications were big enough that we'll allow it. But we really would prefer brand new mocs.

Forgot about the contest until 2 days ago. Hope this passes as a hardsuit. The size is right anyway, and it does fit a mini-fig.

So many awesome creations, it's going to be tough to vote. I do think some of you need a hard & fast definition of what a "hard suit" is supposed to be though =P Because these things are important in life ; )

like I said, build and we will determine. I just generally think of something small that at least looks like a minifig could fit. Lukas, have anything to add?

JINZONINGEN 73 says:

Yeah, I had to sit and think what "hardsuit" meant. Doing something as skin-tight as what you'd see in Bubblegum Crisis or Intron Depot has limited possibilities with Lego minifigs. In the end I was just like, "Well... if they're inside a small mech and in a standing position... ".
Wikipedia was little help in the matter, too.
Of course then, after I already post my entry, some micro-scale ninja shows up, just to make me rethink my logic lol: eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/euroforum/index.php?showtopi...
EDIT: Oh duh, he's in this contest already.
