Jabba the Hippo

NekoMama7 PRO 6:04pm, 13 February 2009
Jabba the male hippo, a long time resident of San Diego Zoo, recently moved to Los Angeles Zoo.

Otis, the LA hippo, moved to San Diego Zoo. He is in quarrentine, but will soon be joining their female Funani.

Although LA Zoo's hippo exhibit is much, much smaller than that of San Diego Zoo's, I hope Jabba will enjoy his new home. And most of all, I'm glad that he didn't go somewhere far away!

For the fans of Otis, go visit him at his new home in San Diego.

I have photos of Jabba on his first day at the LA zoo. At first I didn't notice a difference, until the hippo got out of the water and I noticed that it was not Otis.

I loved the video, NekoMama7!

I miss Otis, too. But, I hope we can make a great home for Jabba. Jabba still seems like he's homesick (as most animals are when they first arrive somewhere new). I understand, but I hope he will acclimate very quickly, as I know the keepers will love and care for him.

I hope Jabba will do OK in LA. It's a tougher living arrangement for him, with smaller and outdated exhibit and crowd that's louder and often without manners. Otis, on the other hand, will do just fine, as long as Funani is OK with him.

Otis got a little beat up at San Diego, but they say the introduction "went well for hippos". There's a video of the introduction at the San Diego Zoo website. Dig for it and enjoy a few of the other pieces.

(You ain't getting me on that Flightline!)
