I think the kids left for college. Info should be on the next issue of zoo newsletter.

I think momma ran away from home. And left the twins alone at home.

It was just mom and dad when I was there on 11/10. I asked one of the volunteers and they didn't know. When the cubs first went on view, the newsletter said they had to keep them for at least two years. It also said they would love to keep them. We should still have a little over six months of Wiley and Alyce. I sure want many more days of watching them.

The reptile house will be gone soon and we won't see any of it's residents for a few years at least. The gorilla exhibit was supposed to be done last summer, thus the "at least".

Then, maybe the kids are in training in the off-exhibit area. Maybe they're switching the pairs AM/PM or alternative days. Are there any other exhibits suitable for the kids? I didn't see anything in the newsletter.

I read somewhere that the golden monkey exhibit is probably not going to happen.

There was some political scandal I read about in the Times and getting the golden monkeys was tied up in that mess. I don't remember any details. The most recent two pictures in the pool right now are of Wiley dated 12/2 so I guess they are still around. When mom and the kids were out every day, Mike would come out around closing time. One of us needs to talk to the right person and find out what the story is. If the kids are going to out in the AM, I'll be bummed. I get up at my natural bed time all week to take care of my daughter. I need two days a week on my schedule and I dread the thought of trying to take pictures while alone with her on a weekday. Anyway, maybe they are going for another round of cubs.

I'd like to see tiger falls expanded and a decent exhibit for mountain lions.

I'd like to see the jaguar in a nicer exhibit - I know its not the size that counts but the contents that makes a difference to a captive animals life but the Jaguar seems unhappy.

It seems to me that mom and/or dad are out in the AM; kids in late PM.

And for snow leopards, kids and mom in the morning, dad in the late PM.

Talked to a docent today.

They had triplet tiger cubs. Mom's off exhibit until the cubs are big enough. There was one tiger on exhibit, and I assume it was dad.

Two older cubs left for two different zoos. I didn't get the names.

Gorillas are in several different zoos. One group is in Denver. Another in Atlanta. Maybe some more. Some of the gorillas are getting along nicely with residents there and may not come back to LA. If that happens, LA Zoo will probably get one of theirs in exchange when the exhibit opens. Jane Goodall is coming to LA Zoo in September, and they're trying to finish up the gorilla exhibit by then.

I forgot to ask her about the giraffe kids. I didn't see Raha or Lewis. There were just dad and two moms in the yard today.

Thanks for the update. I'm sad and excited at the same time. I haven't seen Wiley and Alyce since Oct. and really wanted to see them again before they left. I'm excited to have the chance to shoot little tiger cubs again here in L.A. now that my gear and skills are better than when Wiley and Alyce were first out on view. Hopefully they won't wait 6 months now that Melukakan has proven to be a good mother.

I've been there a few times when Raha and Lewis weren't out only to see them the next time. Hopefully there both still here for a while.

Some of our gorillas had babies while on loan. I hope we get that thrill. Our membership would have allowed us to see the special preview last year. Now we'd have to upgrade again. Darn delays:(

Wiley went to the Memphis Zoo.

Went to the zoo three weekends in a row and haven't seen the two giraffe boys. Couldn't find any keepers or docents around to ask questions either.

I went yesterday and over heard a docent say that they moved them, so there wouldn't be any aggression with their mature male. Sorry I didn't ask where :/

I think a lot of the zoo needs to be renovated, but change is slow with zoos.

Per August/September 2007 Zoo Scape:

"On Sunday, June 3, three Sumatran tiger cubs were born (and on Thuesday, June 5, the second of the two cubs born in 2005 was sent to the Memphis Zoo)."

Well, it looks like both kids went to Memphis.

"The two youngster Masai giraffes were also transferred to the Pittsburgh Zoo in June"

Good to know the boys are together.

Zoo redesigned their website and it features a story about their new three tiger cubs.

Gorillas are coming home from Denver in September.

Giraffe brothers seem to be doing well in Pittsburgh. Found a news article about them. It has a short video clip.

And here's a Pittsburgh Zoo's news entry about the boys. It looks like Pittsburgh Zoo decided to call them Mel and Buddy.

If all goes well I will be at the zoo first thing when they open up. Hope the triplets are early morning risers.
