I've been doing lampwork just for a couple of months now but it feels like forever! I am totally addicted! I just finished a 6-week course and now there are so many things I want to try I don't even know where to begin.
Right now I'm fanatcizing about quitting my job and playing with fire all day long.
How about you guys? How long have you been doing this for?

I would LOVE to quit my job and just sit at the torch, not gonna happen. Soon anyway, let's see I took an 8 hour class in June this summer and was instantly hooked! I didn't actually get a torch until mid-August. Since then I am completely addicted… is it a bad thing that you dream about melting glass?

I think a six week course would be heaven!

I haven't made beads, just stuff with beads...I want to take a course, it's a one-day thing, but right now I'm just happy admiring everyone else's amazing work! :)

Thanks for the invite!
I took an 8 hour intro class about this time last year and have been dreaming of having my own torch ever since! Our current living situation isn't safe for one, but my hubby's been feeding my longing with books and promises "just as soon..."

For now I'm looking and dreaming :)

Well, I don't actually make beads, but like mekkvandexter my favourite sport is to admire everyone else's wonderful work and make jewelry with it! I have taken a look through the group's photo pool and everyone here does wonders with glass and colours! May I just ask, with no strings attached, of course, if you sell the beads you make? And the average prices? Just curious.

Thank you so much for the invitation!! :)

Welcome mekkvandexter, daydremr, & Aqua jewels!

And to answer your question Aqua Jewels I have not really sold any of my glass beads. Mainly due to the fact I did not have a kiln and I refuse to give any to anyone without being annealed first (that doesn't stop me from wearing them, lol). With that said, last night (for my birthday) I got a kiln.

Whoo-hoo!

Happy birthday, Blue!

Aqua - I am also currently not selling, until I get a kiln... which will probably be sometime during the next month. :)

Hi everyone!! Thanks a lot to aqua jewels for the invite, this group is awesome! I am still drooling over my key-board!

Like many of you, I took an eight hour course on bead-making last month, and loved it from the very first moment!! However, I don't have my own torch yet, or anything, because I would like to take a longer course before that. I'm Spanish, and here in Spain bead-making is not very widely spread, so I can't find materials at a reasonable price or anything. However, in two months time I am temporarily moving to Germany, and I am sure I will be able to do much more there!!! :)

If you wish to see the few beads I made in my course, yo can see them on my fickr... I don't think they are good enough to post them there, tough I am really proud of my first babies!!! :D

Hi kawai, welcome to the group!
Since Lauscha glass is manufactured in Germany, it will probably be easier for you to get supplies there.
Feel free to post your beads here... this is a friendly group. :)

I've been lampworking for about 5 years. Still trying to find my voice as an artist. Quit my boring job in Sept. to try and get the business going. It's taking longer than I thought.( I'm a perfectionist) Just started a part time job at a non-profit to pay the rent. I love melting glass!

oh fluerette you've had the guts to do what I would only dream about, that's so brave! Of course I think your work is beautiful I have such a long way to go!

Kawai welcome to the group and don't be shy about posting your beads! (love your icon, Ranma 1/2 used to be one of my favorites, lol)

Hi everyone!! Thanks for the welcome :) I've been cheking through your pictures, there are so many artists in this group!!! I wish I'll be able to do something similiar some day!! :) I have posted a couple of pictures of some of the few beads I've done so far... nothing like what I've seen here, but I hope I'll get better! ;)

Hi there! Nice to find this group. I started lampworking about 13 years ago. I worked at a bead store owned by "glass people". They were very helpful at starting me on a path and introduced me to a stained glass store owner that developed an inexpensive torch for hobbiests. That turned out to be Cindy Jenkins. She was my first teacher and a very generous, cool human. I continue today to make beads. I love trying everything. I sell some loose, but mostly use them in my own jewelry that I sell for custom orders.

Thanks so much you guys! It is great to find some people to share photos and chat with about lampworking, outside of LE and WC. Sometimes I get claustrophobic. ha ha.
