Editing Software

I am a beginner at photography. What editing software would be best for me? I have tried Picnik and have nothing but issues with it. I am not opposed to going out and buying something but need some tips.

I think it would be worth it to buy Photoshop Elements. My next recommendation would be Google Picasa which is free.

I use Corel Paint Shop Pro and find it to be a very complete program and a great place to start learning. Not too expensive either! I'm a beginner too and haven't taken the leap to Photoshop.

+1 for PSE. PSE 9 is currently out and they are releasing PSE 10 very soon. It will do everything you need it to do for a long time.

A not so expensive and very user friendly software is Lightroom. Although I am a HUGE advocate for the full blown Photoshop - it is ridiculous expensive. Lightroom is comparitive in editing and has a wonderful workflow set up. And you could always take an IPC course to learn it in depth if need be. :)
