Reflections of Freedom...

Making the subject of your picture a reflection is a good way to add drama to a photograph with a lot of creative potential.

Reflection photographs are used primarily to do one of two things, enhance or distort an image. Reflections can enhance an image by providing the viewer more angles to view a subject (e.g. a mirror showing both sides of a persons face). Reflections can distort images depending on the reflective surface used. A hubcap for example is going to result in a fish-eye effect where as ripples in water will produce a funhouse mirror effect.

Assignment:

Take a picture where your main subject is primarily shown in a reflection. Post your results here and they may end up in one of our newsletters!

This is a reflection of my son looking at the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC. The monument shows the reflection of 19 American soldiers sculpted from stainless steel. Following is a link to more Korean War Memorial Facts. www.aviewoncities.com/washington/koreanwarmemorial.htm

Which way is up? by kicki22

Snapped this shot last week while visiting relatives in Florida. I loved how the lake caught the reflection - loved flipping it over to show off just how clear that reflection really was (so the "right side up" portion is actually the reflection in the lake - you can see the top of the tree is "shimmering" in the lake just a bit).
