Does anyone know how to get back photos from Lightroom...if my memory card has been erased, my photos were deleted from my computer, and LR won't export them because they are "missing" or "offline"? I'm sure it's probably a long shot...Thanks for any help!!

Stephanie! If you changed the folder or renamed it, it will show missing because its no longer the file catalog recognizes but you can have lightroom search for the files. This happens to me a lot because i'll change the name or relocate a folder. When you export a file make sure its 100 % because you can always send the file smaller and still preserve the original. I do everything in Raw but once i'm done editing i export it JPG and delete the NEF file to save disk space.
WE should all get together and discuss this because even though i've been to the classes i could be picking up some bad habits as well...lol

Check your recycle bin on your desktop.
Also, You might want to surf a data recovery forum.
LR only saves the edits you make, so your originals are still somewhere.
I'm not sure where all the data goes but, it is my understanding that it is not gone until is has been overwritten with new data.

If your looking for some real "must haves" you can send your computer off for recovery. Sounds pricey!

your always better off to upload your pictures 1st then have lightroom add them too the catalog (more like a safty net)

Stephanie - I'm so sorry to hear about this. I JUST did this over the weekend. I load the files on my computer and they always go to the automatic directory that my camera loads to. I then uploaded them to LR. I took the pictures from the automatic folder they uploaded to and moved them to my pictures folder and relabeled them and deleted some of them. I then went back to LR to edit them and couldn't because of this problem. I eventually figured it all out, but it was a major pain and I had not deleted my photos from my memory card yet (thankfully)!!

I really really really hope you didn't lose your photos.

Thanks everyone! I think I may not be able to recover my photos, as I deleted the originals from the computer, and then had emptied my recycle bin, all in efforts to make more room on the hard drive. And, I had already reformatted my memory card. Luckily, the photos I'm trying to get back were just for fun from Mo'Joes Coffeehouse, but they were pretty cool. I could always go back and recreate them, but one was just luck - a school bus had driven by, and I had some cool yellow blur behind my shot. I've learned my lesson here!

Thanks again!!!!
