So my family of 3 has a family photo session scheduled for tomorrow. It may rain tomorrow, but I have worked miracles to get this day to work. It hasn't been a great day, week, or month for me, and I feel like saying come hail or high water.. I want to just do the session.

However, I'm not the one putting my gear on the watery line here, so I can not expect our photog to feel the same way. lol What I am asking of my fellow Indy photo friends is.. have you done a session in the rain, and at the IMA or know someone who has?

I'm looking for ideas on keeping her gear dry, but getting some great shots. Advice, pics, comments, they're all welcome... and fast! =p

While it's incredibly sweet of you to be thinking about her gear, it's really her call. I don't shoot much outdoors but keeping having a few heavy duty freezer bags on hand is something I picked up from a wildlife photographer.

Most semi-pro and pro cameras are weather sealed but even so I don't like to tempt fate if I don't have to. She might try wrapping her camera with plastic and having someone stand over her with a big sports umbrella.

She could also roll down the window and shoot from her car if it could be close enough.

I had to shoot wedding party photos in the rain at a summer wedding and they turned out quite spectacular. Umbrellas are a must and could add to the cuteness. A good photographer should be ready for the challenge or be ready to reschedule.
If avaialable you could bring someone to hold an umbrella over the photog. That's what I did at my wedding and it worked out quite well.
So rock the rain and have fun. Ultimately it's about capturing your family so enjoy it either way!

How did it go? Did the rain hold off for you? Can't wait to see your shots.

Sorry forgot to check back in. She didn't want to chance it. But she does want to do a rain session someday, so I told her just to call me and I'd leave work and gladly be her test subject, so we're both excited about that.

We've reschedule for this monday. It's supposed to be sunny and mid 50's.

Cool and are you going to head over to Butler for the social shoot afterward?
