Me and another IPC student were talking and thinking about getting together for a day trip to Chicago. This is just in the begging stages of planning, but thought it would be fun to turn this into an IPC get together for whoever is interested. Because of the holidays, our travel time/dates may be limited. For planning sake some proposed dates may be December 6 or 13th. We don't want to do it too close after Thanksgiving but also not close to Christmas.

Let us know your thoughts. Does this sound interesting like something you would want to do? I am sure we could capture some great photos of the holiday events going on in Chi town.

Depending on how many people go....potential transportation could be via the MegaBus which runs about $30-45 for a trip...leaves early from downtown Indy and arrives at Union Station, downtown Chicago and comes back late (perfect for a day trip). For those who wouldn't want to spend the entire day there are different times for the return. Another option could be via Amtrak which leaves from downtown Indy as well. Although it's schedule is not as flexible as the MegaBus and a little more expensive.

Let me know your thoughts and we can coordinate. I know of three people that are already interested.

Also, if not many people are interested, we can always drive....although parking in downtown Chicago is ridiculous.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Miya

Why not simply just rent a full size suv to make the trip. Split the cost. I could lease one for 24 hours from budget depending on how many people want to come. I would like to see John come along though. He's a good hands on teacher and knows the function of the camera very well.

I thought of renting a vehicle but that would be just as expensive as the MegaBus. Cost of the rental, gas and then parking. Parking in Chicago could be $100 plus for the day. If there were enough people and the SUV was agreeable..then that would be ok too. (I wanted to give people freedom to leave earlier if they wanted with the bus.) This idea wasn't really geared toward teacher instruction, just more of a get together for the students. Although the instructors are more than welcome to come.

I have to say I hate the cold....and Chi town is always cold...but I'm still considering! I like the idea of the bus...That way we can relax and get to know one another!! Comfort is priceless.....Bring a camera manual if we can't get an instructor...we'll figure it out! I'm pretty comfortable with my Canon. Trial and error baby!!!!!!

i'm game for dec 13th if anything lots of snow...lol. I have a canon 30d. One thing i am doing is learning this camera inside and out. I have a digital field guide by Charlotte K. Lowrie. She is very good at explaining how to get the most out of your canon. OK so how does this bus trip work out then? Full of Questions just ask David...lol

2 time slots are available for the megabus. The one that looks good to me and getting the most out of it would be leaving at 405 am arriving at 620 am. This would give us plenty of time to have breakfast and plan out our day. Figure starting around 8 to 9 am. Coming back at 6 pm. Arriving at 1015 pm. Tho only other alternative would be leaving at 9:45 am which would put us in Chicago around noon. Kind of to late though you ask me. Any thoughts on this...

Ouch 4:05! I'm cranking and crabby that early...wouldn't be good just meeting all of you (but I am flexible) ...I'm just warning you!!!
So a photographer would ask....sunrise or sunset? :o)

You say suburban..I say bus...suburban..bus...suburban..bus!
You're silly..
No really..I would rather leave the driving up to a professional...especially not knowing everyone that well...(driving skills)
The train sounds fun, too.

I say we stick with the bus. It is easier and everyone can plan their own return if they want to come back earlier, or for those who want to stay later. Personally, I want to get some night shots so returning at 6 p.m. isn't ideal for that.

Plus, the bus comes into Union Station which is walkable to many great destinations (including the mile for anyone interested).

Taking a car is just going to be a pain! Also you have to deal with traffic etc. etc. My vote - stick to the bus. I'm sorry but the small fare is worth no hassle.

David - if you would like to drive and meet us somewhere in Chicago that would be ok.

the other alternative is leave at 9:45 arrive at 12 pm 27.00
leave at 10 pm arrive in Indy at 2:15 am. 25.00.
I have no problem with this plan because the weather will be warmer around noon but at night will pay for it, but like moostang said we got the night shots and frankly there is no way i want to drive to Chicago just wanted to give another alternative to the plan. Like to do things in 3s
