Houston Museum of Natural Science 4:30pm, 17 September 2010
Hi everyone!

I’m very excited to announce that our next Flickr meetup is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 10 from 6 – 8 p.m. in our new Real Pirates exhibition. During these hours, registered photographers will have access to photograph the exhibit.

Real Pirates showcases the pirates on board the Whydah – the only authenticated pirated shipwreck ever uncovered – when it went down off the East coast of the US in 1717. Dive into the wreck to uncover their stories through more than 200 fascinating artifacts! Touch real pirate gold and marvel at gold and silver coins from all over the world, cannons, swords, and pistols along with the ship's massive bell, and discover the advanced technology that revealed these treasures to the modern world. And, of course, take lots of pictures!

You must have an active Flickr account to participate, and registration is required for this event. To register, please e-mail with your name and a link to your Flickr account. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me or post a comment here. Registration must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8.

Also, some group members requested that I notify them via email so they are sure to see our announcements of these events right away; if you would like to be included on an email list to receive information about future events, please indicate this on your registration email.

Hope you can make it!

NOTE: While the use of tripods and other equipment is allowed during our meetups (no flash - check your registration confirmation email for details), please be aware of and courteous to those around you and consider the limited time frame of our meetups when setting up - we want to make sure everyone has a chance to take pictures of everything they would like to shoot. Thank you!

Hey Erin - any suggestions for tags (how about "HMNSPirateMeetup" or just "Arrrrrrrrrr") and captions/credits?
Hi Ed! You should have just received an email from me with some suggestions. Just in case, here's the info!

Tag: please use hmnspirates so that everyone can find your photos later.

If you'd like to include a credit to the museum and Real Pirates exhibition, we would love a link to any of these places:

BTW: Anyone catch the minor goof in the display of the Captain in the ship?

He was holding a map titled "Maris Pacifici", i.e. the Pacific Ocean, when the Whydam and the Captain's career was solely in the Atlantic.

I thought it was funny.
