For Cambridge, Winchester and Oxford fairs in 2009!

We caused a bit of storm in November last year in Oxford, with over 1300 people attending our very first event. The two hundred goody bags we had made up, with samples, promos and business cards from handmade crafters and indie artisans went flying off the table, and were all snapped up by lunchtime. With people queuing to come in at 11, it was a sure sign that things were going to go well!
So, with that in mind, the goody bags are back, and they are bigger than ever! We need your BUSINESS CARDS. We need your QUALITY SAMPLES. We need your FLYERS, VOUCHERS and PROMOS!

Here is how it works:

We plan to give out 600 goody bags this year; 200 per event. They created a real buzz, and we have had excellent feedback on aftersales from businesses who used them as a way of reaching handmade buyers. You can send us 10 samples. You can send us 200 business cards. Your samples and promotional material will be divided amoungst the events evenly, giving you the best chance at reaching the most people.

However, please remember:

* This is a lot of work. We love it, but we don’t love having to stick 100 business cards to 100 samples because you have forgotton to do it - please send your stuff exactly as you want it to appear in the bags
* Please address the package to Handm@de Fairs.
* Please pay the correct amount of postage! All the money left over after the hall and insurance fees are paid is goes towards advertising the events; the organisers work on a purely voluntary basis.
* Once arrived, what you have sent will be photographed, and the photograph will be available for viewing in the Handm@de Flickr group www.flickr.com/groups/handmadefairs/, as well as a possibility of featuring in our blogs. You will of course receive credit for this.
* If you are sending sealed mini-goody bags or packages, please leave one open so we can take a gander at the contents.

The address to send your things to is:

Handm@de
44 Jupiter Drive
Hemel Hempstead
Herts
HP2 5QJ

Just remember, we must receive your items by either:

* the 31st of March for inclusion in all three events
* 30th of June for inclusion in two events
* before 4th of November for the final event of the year.

We look forward to receiving your goodies!

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/acornattic/] hi all - am totally new to all this and so excited about Cambridge - but looking for guidance - what kind of thing do you mean by samples? things you'll actually have for sale on your stall? smaller versions of same? I went to Oxford Handmade but was obviously too late to get my own goody bag or I'd have a better idea!

any thoughts from more experienced sellers would really help me out!

thanks,
Clare

People send all sorts in... from just business cards to simple earrings, keyrings, cards, bag charms, bookmarks, notepads, there were some soaps and some fabric patches to sew onto things...

Some people send just 1 or 2 items plus a handful of business cards, others send 100!
acornattic [deleted] 8 years ago
Righto - some ideas to get me started there - bookmarks possibly a good one for me as I'm a textiles sort of person. I can see I'll need to get busy before April! Looking forward to seeing you all there...

We are still collecting for promos,we will be collecting all year but we really need your promos soon for the Cambridge fair!

See the original post!

You don't have to be an exhibitor to send items, you just have to be a crafter! :)

I've just ordered a bumper batch of business cards. 1000 of them for about a tenner including the postage... money well spent if they reach 600 people I reckon.

Now to figure out what promotional items to make!
Karen Jinks Design 8 years ago
ooh must get on with this!!
admin
lazygiraffe 8 years ago
where did you get them from martha? considering ordering quite a few for the promos myself..

It was vista - think that particular offer ended yesterday, but no doubt there'll be plenty more!
I ordered a few bits and pieces to take advantage of the free postage (i'm a sucker for that) but nothing I didn't want.

Excellent - thank you all for this!

Errr… would it be annoying for you if I sent things in three batches, in time for each fair? Or would you prefer to have them all in one go?
admin
MomentsByMartha 8 years ago
That would be fine... Its a big undertaking to get everything ready at once!

I'm posting 100 business cards tomorrow for the Handm@de Cambridge fair. I'll send more items later in time for the other two fairs.

Hi,

I posted this on the Etsy thread but thought I ask here as well:

I'm trying to get some voucher cards done for this but I've been pondering what % off encourages people to use them. In these hard economic times I'm thinking 10-15% off just won't cut it. Of course no amount of discount will make some buy if they don't want or need what you offer but I'm feeling 20-30% is what will make sending cards in worth your while.

Would love others opinions on this.

Thanks
Belinda

I think a 20% discount is enough to persuede people to make that leap from "hhmmm shall I?" to "Oh yes, well since I've got this discount"

Surely, if you give 30%, you are not going to be making much?
Mia Belle Jewellery 8 years ago
Thanks Twinkly,

I was thinking 20%, that would work for me. I wouldn't personally go 30% wouldn't be worth it, I have seen a number of 25% sales so just wondering what others are doing.

Thanks

I haven't received them yet Sam - were they marked signed for? I have two red card thingys to collect tonight from the post office.

I have one more lot to take a photo of yet and that will go up tomorrow aswell, tomorrow night because I'm working. My corner is starting to look like it did last year! Very exciting!
BeadsBySam 8 years ago
:O Just checking this post. Slightly panic! Have you got them katie?

beadsbysam

I did not receive them today. However, my post is notoriously bad on a monday as I have a lazy-ass postman who has every monday off. His replacement refuses to take packages. I don' know why. I am being serious. This happened with last years fair. Don't worry!!

I have two parcels to pick up at the royal mail now, will have to be tomorrow that I collect them. I'll post straight away here what I get in the post tomorrow, so don't worry! Sometimes things take a few days to turn up :)

Thanks Katie. Hope it won't get lost!

Sorry if someone's already asked this... I'm thinking of donating an item for the raffle. Is it possible to give this to the Blue Cross on the day or is it important that they have it before hand?
admin
lazygiraffe 8 years ago
You can bring it along on the day, that is fine, could you let me know what it is so I can tell the charity, in case they want to prepare any documents or text for it.

If the charity aren't there when you arrive come and find me and I will keep it and pass it on when they do.
thechownjewels 8 years ago
Mine are in the post and should be with you on Monday, in the meantime, I have posted pics as promised. ;)

Hi, I'll be bringing one of my stuffed dogs or cats on the day to donate to the Blue Cross raffle. Not sure which one yet as I'm having a competition (see fabricnationadventures.blogspot.com/). Well done on getting in the Guide next week too! gx
Kate Hibbs [deleted] 8 years ago
i've been totally behind on this, but would love to donate some cards and gift tags for the raffle, I'll hand them over on the day if that's ok...
admin
twinklyspangle 8 years ago
Kate, that is totally fine, just locate Deepa, Becci or myself on the day. We'll probably be round collecting things anyway :)
Quercus Silver 8 years ago
Mine didn't turn up in time. So I'm sulking. I'll just have to hand out moo cards like a woman possessed!

We can still add some things if they arrived this week!
I'll be popping my things in the post today!
CoCo Crafts 8 years ago
I sent my stuff last week, just wanted to double check that it has arrived??

Well done for all the stuffing you did at the weekend - you guys are working so hard for us all - thank you!!
admin
twinklyspangle 8 years ago
Coco - we did receive yours thank you, I have taken a photo and they are on their way to being uploaded now :)

Just as a note, I did mention this on my twitter (twinklyspangle) As now anything that arrived today and after today will be being stuffed by me and me alone, I have set aside Thursday to do this - and I have at least 11 more packages arrived today/ at the PO. Because I am not a freaky bag-stuffing machine, anything that arrives after the post on Friday, I'll open, samples will be put in the bags but business cards in large numbers I'm just not going to have time, so I'll email you and ask if you would like me to pop them back into the post for you, or whether I should put them aside for Winchester bag-stuffing.

Sorry to have to do this but I was stuffing bags at 8am on the morning of the last fair and I can't do that again!!
Karen Jinks Design 8 years ago
mine went in the post finally on Saturday (been trying since last wednesday to get to the po and failed) so they should be with you tomorrow if not today.
