About this group:
Welcome to the Flickr group for Guardian UK news - here we invite our readers to share pictures with us related to stories and newsworthy topics we're covering - to help us build a picture of how certain news stories are affecting people across the UK and allow you to share your take on the big news stories of the week.
This group is run by the community coordinators who work in the newsroom Hannah and Laura. You can contact us by messaging the Guardian on Flickr, writing a discussion post or tweeting @Guardian.
Every so often, we set a different theme related to a something we're looking at in the news - and the theme will be changed in the name of this group and in the alert above the group description.
This group isn't a way to contact our picture desk or submit pictures if you are a photographer and would like to work for the paper - you can contact the picture desk directly by tweeting them @GuardianPhotos or to www.guardian.co.uk/help/contact-us
You may also be interested in joining our Photos of 2012: 52 weeks project - where group members are taking one photo a week to document their year in pictures and exploring iPhoneography and the way we take photos. We also have the Guardian Camera Club where we set a theme and you submit a portfolio of your photography.
We also have many other Flickr groups on a range of subjects, news topics and interests - so check out our profile page to see them all.
We'll feature some of our favourite portfolios and pictures from the group on guardian.co.uk and maybe in other formats, e.g. our newspapers. By posting your pictures here you a) acknowledge that you have created the pictures or have permission to do so; and b) grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, free licence to publish your pictures as described. Copyright resides with you and you may reuse your pictures however you wish. You will be credited and paid if we make other uses of your pictures. It would also help us if you make the pictures downloadable in case we use them in a Guardian gallery.
From 1 May 2012: we're looking for your photos of flooding in the UK. You need to tag your photos 'flooding' to help us find the relevant pictures in the group. This is following the latest news that following one of the wettest Aprils, parts of the UK have been hit by severe flooding. We're looking for your images showing how the flooding has affected your area, and stories of self help and Britons working together to work through the weather conditions.
Queen's Jubillee preparations - from Thursday 10 May. As we approach the Queen's diamond jubilee celebrations in June we're beginning to see the decorations go up for street parties, British flags dominating shop window displays and towns and cities across the UK getting ready for the royal celebrations. So we've set a new theme for the group for you to share with us images which reflect how your area is getting ready for the party or marking the event. Please remember to tag your pictures jubileeprep and please ensure you put the date and location information either in the caption or the photo info.
Olympic torch route: Guardian relay - from Tuesday 15 May. So the Olympic torch has been lit (then relit when the wind blew it out). People have wept. And at 7am sharp on Saturday 19 May, the marathon 70-day, 8,000-mile relay around the four corners of Britain will begin, at Land's End in Cornwall.
If the torch is passing through your town, you can take a picture of the day in a way which represents the town and submit it to the pool with the tag 'GdnRelay' - read more about how to take part in this post. There is a new theme for the group now but we will still be accepting submissions for the torch relay.
From 1-6 June: Queen's diamond jubilee celebrations. From a pageant on the Thames and sheep racing in Barnsley to parties and bunting on a street near you, there are plenty of ways to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee weekend. We want to build a picture of how the diamond jubilee was commemorated across Britain and hope to feature a selection of your photos in the paper and possibly in a gallery on Guardian.co.uk (see our T&Cs on the front of the group). Add you photo to the group, tagged 'diamondjubilee' and tell us in the caption where it was taken and what is going on.
From 6-21 June: June floods and wet weather - share your pictures of the wet weather and floods to help us paint the picture of the UK in June. Tag your pictures junefloods so we can find them in the group - plot them on the group map and tell us more about the photo in the caption.
From 21-28 June: EURO 2012
With the Euro 2012 tournament stoking up this weekend with some major games scheduled, we know some of you will be watching the match in your local pub or with friends.
We want to build a picture of the UK football-watching public over Euro2012 - so share you pictures with us over the weekend tagged 'Euro2012' - whether you're at the local alehouse, on a sofa with friends, or watching the big matches in more ingenious ways across the UK.
From 29 June - 5 July: Olympics one month to go
Wednesday saw the one month countdown to the London 2012 Olympics commence, with the Olympic rings being erected on London's Tower Bridge.
To mark the milestone, we want to see how the UK is preparing for the Olympics - with many countries camping out in their area. Share your pictures with us using the tag 'Olympicscountdown' and we'll select the best to be included in a gallery here.
From 5 July: festivals and fetes
Whatever the weather in the UK this week, the summer season sees a host of festivals, fetes and fairs taking place. We want to bring some festivity to the group, so this week's theme is festival season, whether you are organising, taking part in or a spectator.
We want to see how the UK is gearing up for summer celebrations from the village fete to the local food festival and how creative you can be in capturing the mood of the event. Let us know in the description of the picture where and when the event is taking place, as we hope to use a selection of those submitted in a gallery on site.
If you're going to a music festival our music team has a separate group for you to share and discuss your pictures here: www.flickr.com/groups/summer-festivals-2012/
From August 2012- Summer is finally here - well just for a short while. The sunny weather being enjoyed by many parts of the UK is unlikely to last for the start of the Olympic Games, forecasters said, with possible showers forecast for the opening ceremony.
But while it's here let's celebrate with a showcase of our best sunny pics from the weekend. Post your picture to the pool tagged 'UKsun' and we'll select the best for a guardian.co.uk gallery.
From 1-12 September: The end of the summer is upon us - with the kids back at school and the days cooling down & the nights getting shorter again and the paralympics closing ceremony taking place on Monday - we thought it a good time to share our highlights of the summer 2012.
Post your favourite picture which represents something of British summer in 2012 - from the jubilee parties to the Olympics (remember no photos from Olympic park please) - add it to the group pool or post it in this thread so we can build an online gallery of your favourite photos. Be selective and choose your favourite one or two from June-present which sums up your summer.
You can also tell us more about your picture and why it represents this summer to you in the caption. Tag your picture 'summer2012 so we can find it in the stream.
