G'MIC is a great creative tool but sometimes we fall short (especially the noobz like me) because we do not dare to experiment. So I invite all to post links to tutorials and tips with the G'MIC already in the forum there are a few that I will link. I hope it will help the newcomers to know the G'MIC

Tom, I have some serious problems using your link to bplaced.net. Getting this:

bplaced.net Zugriff verweigert, Fehler 403. Sorry, access forbidden, error 403. Contact service provider

Clicking "contact service provider" gives the same message.

It could be, that your service provider is blocking some IP adresses (without stating so clearly) or that authorities in my country (which has some odd ideas about press freedom) is blocking the access.

I have tried to click your link repeatedly with the same result. Could you try to submit a complaint about my access problems for me? My IP address at the moment is 58.9.99.32

Regards
Preben

Hi Preben,

I never had that type of problem before. I asked the admin of this free webhosting service (it usually works very well). As soon as I get reply I will post it.

Best regards
Tom

I received a reply: The provider bplaced.net has blocked IP´s from some east asian countries due too frequent abuse and attacks in the past.

Sorry, this is beyond my control, only thing you can do is use a proxy that your IP is accepted one.

Hi Tom,

Thank you, It is as I expected. The authorities here (Thailand) forbids using proxies. (But my son works at an ISP, he can make a VPN for me :-)

@chhipa7: Sorry, I do not understand the problem in full. Maybe it is the usual memory problem with G´MIC filters, the one for 3D video conversion is also among the very memory demading filters. Maybe I can help better if you describe the problem a bit more.

Dear tom,
Thanks for your prompt reply,i cannot save the greyscale depth map file in output new active layer as error occured to short memory, how to i solve this problem.
MOD
tom.keil 7 years ago
Dear Yabi,

if you make all settings to produce a depth map only (output format "depth map only" or filter Depth map construction) and error occurs due to unsuffiencent memory you only can downsize your image and try again or use a machine with more memory, sorry.

You can do so many things with G'mic that I think that it is still unrecognized by most users. I must admit that I sometimes notice some effects I had totally missed.
Also, the default settings of some of them could be fine-tuned, and, when it is possible, the name of the parameters should be more straightforward for common users.
What else could be done to make it better known?

Ronounours 6 years ago
That is a good question. I personally believe that G'MIC is quite powerful :), but convincing others is a huge and hard task.
Next saturday, I'll do a talk about CImg and G'MIC, at the 'Rencontres du Libre' at Lion s/ Mer. This is probably one good way to make the project more visible.
I hope to get a lot of feedbacks there.

Best thing about gimp and G'MIC is you can undo/reset if you don't like what you have done.

I think G'mic online (gmicol.greyc.fr/) can help making G'mic more visible.
I give the link whenever I can.

Ah! The transience of the Internet. `Tis a reflection of us, I suppose.
If you're keen on G'MIC tutorials, beware that some domains cited in this topic have vanished over the course of four years. I've just completed a quick survey and find that these domains or subdomains have evaporated:

1. gimpers.com
2. ogimp.com
3. tkfilter.bplaced.net

Pity, because I seem to recall Tom Keil had some neat tutorials tucked away in the tkfilter subdomain. In memory they seem sweet.

Perhaps, future tutorial writers, whoever you are, if you could just join one of the established chat/talk groups or social networks - gimpchat.com, gimptalk.com, flickr, Google+ and host your tutorial there (please)? G'MIC is not so vastly well-known that it can afford pieces of its knowledge common wealth to drop off into the murk. Thank you in advance. - GRO

Can I ask what the paper preset was originally for?
I have found that after smoothing photos and losing texture from them that the paper preset gives it back!
