InternationalRescueCommittee ADMIN December 2, 2007
Welcome! This group was inspired by a project started by "Kabul in Winter" author Ann Jones and the IRC to help women in war zones make their voices heard through photography. We'll be posting some of the women's photos here and invite you to add to the pool. Post photos that show what life is like for women in your community. Please include three images of things that are problems in your life, and three images of things that make you happy.

Group Description

The International Rescue Committee is working with writer, photographer and long-time women's advocate Ann Jones to give women in war zones an opportunity document their own lives with digital cameras and make their voices heard.

Right now, Ann is blogging from West Africa, posting new photos and stories each day for 16 days, starting November 25 — the kick-off of "16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence."

The first phase of what will be a year-long project -- called A Global Crescendo: Women’s Voices from Conflict Zones -- is the story of village women in West Africa’s Ivory Coast emerging from isolation to find “Anouanze!”—Unity.

"It’s a good story, with a happy ending, and lots of good photos too, taken by the women themselves. We hope it will encourage you to add your own voice to these 16 Days of Activism now and in the years ahead." - Ann Jones

You can read Ann's posts here and sign up to get e-mail alerts about new posts at www.theIRC.org/join16days.

We also hope you will add to the Global Crescendo: Women's Voices photo pool.
