Thoughts on the shows History Channel is showing this week....
Gettysburg and Lee and Grant.

I thought the Lee and Grant was better than Gettysburg. I was disapointed with Gettysburg. I think the inacurate terrain was disheatning.

Kudos to Geico for the Caveman-Gettysburg Commercial. What a hoot!

I've been watching all this week. I liked the Caveman..lol. I thought the CGI Abe sucked. They should have had a real actor play him.

Hate the inaccurate terrain too, does not really show what influenced battle.

Hadn't the Lee/Grant been on before? I remember thinking that it was a bit odd that they didn't cover the major engagements in which the two men met as commanders on the battlefield. Maybe I am a bit crazy, but I thought that show had been on before.

Gettysburg was just awful. I wonder if the Scott brothers wanted to tape the movie in Gettysburg. Would be interesting to know why they didn't.

I thought both were very sub par... I don't understand why the History Channel doesn't do more about the Civil War... They seem to have a ton of programming about WWII. Not that there is anything wrong with that either. But it bothers me that the network only shows a couple sub-par specials on the 150th anniversary or the beginning of the war... I know there have been a couple other specials every once in a whlie. But quality ones are few and far between.

History did all the shows and movie for the new Visitor's center, so they certainly have the material. I'm sure we will see more over the next few years.

The portion on Amos H. was incomplete...why didn't they tell the whole story...the contributions which permitted the founding of an orphanage. It seems like the more I watch the History Channel the more disappointed I become.

You can say what you want from what I have seen the movie based on the killer angel's is about the best movie that I have seen and maybe a few will find fault I think a lot of effort and time went into this movie to try and get it the way it might have been and showed that both sides had american's that fought and died for what they believed in.The movie on the history channel was a let down and one would have thought it was really going to be a great movie and show even more fact's and seemed to fall short of a movie that would be shown for the 150th anniversary. There may be other movie's out there but I am not awhere of them but I for one am really interested in the history of this battle and the war.

My husband and I both watched the Gettysburg show, we agreed the best thing about it was the Geico commercial. We were so put off by the lack of quality we didn't bother to watch the Lee & Grant show.

At least the Gettysburg show was new. We can only hope that much new programing about the Civil War will be forthcoming.

Saw the Discovery Channel filming in front of the Farnsworth House and out on the battlefield this past Wednesday.

Check this out for how far worse this show could have been.

I did not see the movie or shows when they aired on the History channel for I haven't watched too much if any TV even when available in about 4-5 years. But I did see the History Channels shows on youtube a few times and everytime I only get as far as the second part about 30 mins maybe 1 hour then I turn it off for not interested.
It did lead to many things with me for The Amos Humiston and Gen Barksdale interest, for became intrigued with the Humiston story and as you have seen with my Photos gone to the places.where the events happened along with the RR Cut,had been over it hundreds of tmes but never knew the story until seeing it.
Like mentioned above it didn't tell the story of what happened after the Photo was found and many online sites don't tell the story right, for what I understand is that the photo was found by the daughter of a tavern owner in Hanover who put it on the bar mantle and a couple reporters from a paper in Philly stopped in on their way to report on the aftermath of the battle.
Hopefully some time they will do a show that does tell the truth for most historical and bio pics don't and I'm sorry some of the re enactors over do it,not sure if the directors tell them too but oh well,.
Didn't see the Geico segment but have seen other segments with them, lol.
