Group Description

What’s the Getty Images Fototrove collection?

Fototrove is a brand new Archival Creative Rights Managed Collection – conceptually rich and an unashamedly nostalgic collection of archival imagery curated from the Flickr communities which will live on the creative pages of .

We are looking for old slides and treasures from the attic. Evocative retro snaps full of nostalgia, fun, warmth, the unexpected, the alluring, the bold and fascinating. In short, All Human Life.

Take a look at some of our favourites at Getty Images Archive ♥’s to get an idea of what we’ve got in mind, and if you fancy a peek inside the physical Getty Archives based in London check out this rather magical short film here: . You can see that to say we have a lot of archive is an understatement, but we are very excited to be working in a new way with Flickr too!

So is Fototrove part of the Getty Images collection?

Yes, but this is a different collection to the one you may already know and be submitting to. Fototrove is all about your old scanned slides and prints. But it’s still a Getty Images collection, so this should tell you most of what you need to know.

Fototrove is going to become the home for all the vintage pictures selected from the Flickr collection, so if you are an existing Flickr contributor with ‘archive’ material already we will be looking to move that into this new collection in the next few weeks – but you don’t need to do anything and nothing changes about the way you are paid.

How do I submit?

Create a set of five suitable pictures and send a link to . Our editors will then take a look. If we like what we see then we’ll send you an invite for the images selected.

The editors looking after Fototrove are vintage picture specialists so they only want to see your old pictures. For contemporary pictures you still need to get in touch through the Getty Images Call for Artists group (or Artist Picks if you're already enrolled).

It can take up to a few weeks from the time you post the images before you receive an invitation, and unfortunately we are not able to give individual feedback on submissions. If we don’t invite you to join immediately, please don’t take it personally! There are many factors involved in image selection and that make an image right or wrong for this particular collection. You are welcome to try again with some different scans later on.

A few submission guidelines:

• A submission should consist of 5 images, no more, no less.

• Images should be relevant to a creative, commercial stock photography collection, so subjects like news, celebrities, and product photography should not be included. Images with logos and trademarks should also be avoided or retouched.

• We’re not looking for recent images with a “vintage look” (from processing, styling, etc.). This collection is just for genuine old pictures.

• Scans should ideally be 20MB or over.
B/W images – scanned to a minimum of 10MB at 300dpi and scanned in greyscale. (That will be around 1400 x 2000 pixels and if you compress it at a minimum of quality level 10 in Photoshop the end jpeg file will be between about 1 and 2 MB).

Colour images – scanned to a minimum of 25MB at 300dpi and scanned in RGB. (That will be around 2500 x 3600 pixels and if you compress it at a minimum of quality level 10 in Photoshop the end jpeg file will be between about 2 and 3 MB)

• You must be able to provide model or property releases where appropriate.

• Images must not be licensed to any other users or through any other agency or distributor.

• You must be the copyright owner of the image.

• The photos must be set as “public”. Even though you are able to post "private" images to the pool, please make sure the photos you submit are set as "public", as only those can be selected by us.

• The photos must be set as “Safe”. Our editing tool does not "see" images set as "Moderate" or "Restricted".
