HOW TO WATERMARK PHOTOS ON FLICKR

I welcome people watermarking their photos! I will continue to have a hot link back to the photo on your site but this doubly ensures that you are credited and people know this is a joint venture (i.e. they are not my photos!)

Did you know you can watermark your photos on flickr? It would serve a double purpose if you did it on your photos, though I would be glad to when I upload them.

1) go to actions (above the photo you want to watermark)
2) down towards bottom of scroll down menu there is "edit photo in Aviary"
3) chose the Text button Aa
4) chose a color then just below the colors it says "enter text here" and you enter it in the box that shows up... then chose "add text"
5) the tricky part.... a box shows up in the middle of your photo with the text in it... drag it to where you want it then both resize and straighten it with that white dot handle and save!

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE PHOTOS TO FLUKEMATCHER
1) make sure your privacy and permissions are lose enough that I can download your photos*

2) make sure your exif data (the record of date and settings kept by your camera) are visible or that you add the date and place to the description of the photo.

3) In the title of the photo put the whale's name so that it is visible on all thumbnails

4) Please feel free to add a watermark with your name on the photo... flickr is linked to a photo editing program by clicking on the drop down menu "ACTIONS" and near the bottom "edit photos in Aviary". You can crop and fix photos there too.

Then

I will download them to my computer both to insure the whole collection is saved so if the internet goes down (yikes) it can be reconstructed and also in case a contributors account is closed the whales will still be in flukematcher.

Then upload them to flickr with a hot link to the contributors photo and with the date and place of the sighting.

I also keep a data sheet of all the whales, contributors and sightings.

Under each whale is a form where I will add what we know about each whale... first sighting, date of birth, mother, sex, calving history etc. It will be slow going gathering that information so will need all the help I can get from your FIRST HAND sightings and knowledge.

There are over 400 whales in this collection!!! Thanks to many generous contributors... let's see if we can reach 500!

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK FOR HELP WITH ANY OF FLICKR'S ECCENTRICITIES. It is a powerful but complicated site.
