If you've ever looked in the Help documentation for information about changing your username, you'll see this FAQ, which says:
Why can't I change the personalized URL I created for my account?

Flickr has a firm policy on not changing personalized URLs to maintain data, metadata and link integrity.

But this policy is unnecessary; there is no technical reason why this should be so. People should be using the account number URL, which never changes (called a "permalink" on most sites) to maintain metadata and link integrity. Why allow screen names to change but not the personalized URLs that go with them? Some users have even stated that they WANT to change their personalized URL in order to break links. That should be their choice.

My Pro Account is expiring soon, and I really don't want to spend more money perpetuating the wrong URL. Can we please get rid of this unwanted rule and make the URL match the username?

Lots of people registered personal URLs before it was made clear that they couldn't change them. Others simply made a mistake, didn't notice the warning, or thought they could change it once, not set it once. Now they're stuck with a URL that's 256 characters long, the name of their ex-wife, maiden name, etc. Several users have resorted to deleting their accounts altogether and starting over again from scratch with a new username (losing all their years of comments, view data, mail, etc. in the process). This is an unacceptable situation. People have a lot invested in their accounts, and it's silly to force them to delete everything just to change a link.

Please, Flickr, rethink this "firm policy" that your paying customers have demonstrated that they don't want.

This has been requested by many other users in the past. Here are a few of the many previous discussions:

If they continue to refuse to allow this, does anyone know of a third-party tool for migrating everything to a new profile like this? Obviously I will lose all my information in the process, which would be very aggravating, but if that's the only choice they're giving me...

Please leave a comment below if you also want this fixed.

I second that! I started with a free account, then someone gave me a pro account and shortly I had many pics under a url that doesn't reflect my real name (the screen name), and I really would like to change that without losing what I have already uploaded, all the comments, favorites, and so on.
Come on flickr!

the inability to change is exactly the reason why I'm, after 8 months on flickr, still "10930783@N04"
totally seconded!

The last of those FlickrIdeas threads is still open. No need to start afresh.
