GM Script: Multi Group Sender - Send your image to multiple groups at once *v3.8 Updated 12th Sep 2014*

view profile

steeev is a group administrator steeev says:

I wrote a GreaseMonkey Script called "Flickr - Multi Group Sender" (Compatible with Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera)

It lets you send images to multiple groups, it also loads much faster as it doesnt have to load all the group icons.

Heres a screenshot of it in action:

Ive also added a new function that lets you save the selection of groups that you submit to, letting you reselect them quickly the next time you need them.

In a bid to prevent group spamming, ive set an arbitrary limit to the maximum number of groups you can send to, to 30.

Theres a small counter below the select box, to show how many groups you have selected. You can also no longer submit your image to groups that its already in, these groups will appear faded out in the select box.

*UPDATE* 12/Sep//2014 Fixed for latest version of Greasemonkey (v2.2)

To get the script to run, you need to:
1) use a browser extension that will let you "spoof" the user agent, and set it to "Firefox 21"

This will revert the site to the older photopage design, and will allow the script to run.

If you like this script, please Donate to support the hard work that has gone into it, and is required to update it and maintain it.

You can get the Multi Group Sender script and read the FAQ here

This script and all my other Flickr GM scripts are available here: steeev.freehostia.com/flickr

Please donate to show your support! Though this script is being given away for free, it is not free for me to develop it, many, many hours have been spent programming, testing and supporting it. If you appreciate my work, and would like to thank me, and also support future development and maintenence, please consider making a donation, big or small, every little helps. My paypal link is available on my website and also on my profile page.

My only suggestion is to list the saved groups either 1. alpha or 2. last saved top down.

It seems this script is broken since Flickr's new localisation.

I tried it on this photo:
www.flickr.com/photos/nicolas-hoizey/535701015/

It loads the popup with a message I don't have time to read before it blanks the page and seems to work without giving anything...

I may be asking too much but there are cases when I may want to send it to some more groups other than which I already posted. In that case, is it possible to highlight them / grey them such that I will not post again to same group. If this kind of feature is already there, please enlighten me and I will do my research. :-)

thanks in advance

I'd really like this script working with the international versions of flickr (I use the spanish version).

I checked the code but didn't understand a thing. I guess I'm not much of a coder.

Bummer. Back to the slow 'Organize' group sending.

Just want to say, absolutely terrific script, I've been using it a bit and adore it.

I have one small feature request, which is that it dims/disables the groups that your photo is already in, so you don't re-send it to the same places.

But it's just terrific as it is now... this is simply a dream request :-)

thanks again.

Wow, veeeeeeery long discussion.
Two things only.

1. I received the message, that my photo was in too many group, or better said that too many groups had been selected, even though it had not been.

2. I would like to see in Popular view of my shots the groups the photos are in. Good for sending to "30 faves" etc. groups. I do not remember where my photos have been posted in.

Thanks!

Cedric Bramble says:

Great script! Noticed something strange: Most of the time, when I click, it shows the big menu, like in your screenshot above. But a few times, it has just shown a dropdown list, with group icons next to the group names, and a checkbox and dimmed name of the groups that the shot is already in. Actually, I prefer this "glitch" version, since it shows which groups you've already added to and, presumably, can delete from those groups by unchecking the box, and it shows the group icons, which is a nice quick reminder of the group, in case I've forgotten which group is which.

Any idea what's going on there with the two different versions?

Thanks again for a great script!

steeev is a group administrator steeev says:

@Nicolas Hoizey, freeariello + julianrod, the script only works on the english version of the site at the moment, i will have a look at updating it so it works on the international versions when i get some time. till then, if you want to use the script, simply switch to the english version of the site ;)

@gu@va the script only works after the page has completely finished loading. if you click the send to group button before the page has finished loading, you get the normal send to group menu. so the "glitch" version you describe is in fact the normal flickr send to group menu, and if you prefer that, you could simply disable or uninstall the script.

Dave Ward Photography says:

I have tons of GM scripts for Flickr installed, and this is certainly one of the top 3 or 5 most useful. Multi Group Sender saves SO much time -- thank you!!

I've got a question about it. When I first installed it, I created and saved a set of groups. A while later I joined a few more groups that fit that set. So I selected all the groups and saved them as a set with the same name....

But now I have two different sets of groups with the same name. The new set did not replace the old set. I can't find a way to delete the old set. So I figured it should probably be easy enough to edit the preference file for Multi Group Sender... but I'm having a heckuva time figuring out where the preference file for it is saved.

Can you offer any help in deleting or replacing the old set of groups with the new, updated set? Or, alternately, with finding/editing the MGS preferences manually?

This is one of my favourite GM scrips ever! I do have a feature request, though:

In the group list, can the group names be links? Sometimes I click to send the photo to a group, and then when the confirmation is posted with the link to the group, I follow the link to make sure I posted to the right one. It would be much handier if the original group list could contain links to the groups, so I can double-check the group rules before posting.

Hi steeev. Thanks for the great script. I love it.

One limitation seems to be that you can't add a new flickr group to a currently saved collection. I was trying to find where these data were stored on the hard drive but am unable to. I tried to read through the js file. Is the group info stored as a cookie? Where might I find this cookie (on Windows)?

-> getElementById("photo_gne_button_send_to_group").EXT has no properties .

I've experienced some other problems to the past week which seem to have been solved.

Me too suspect a change in the flickr sourcecode to be the cause.

Could this be made to work from within organizer so that you can take advantage of organizr's features? It would be nice to be able to filter your stream and then select some of those pictures and then add the whole batch to multiple groups simultaneously the same way that you can do it with individual pictures now. Ideally, predefined sets of groups would appear somewhere in the Organizr interface so that you could simply drag a batch of photos in the same way that you can use organizr to add multiple pictures to individual groups.

Thanks for contributing this great script to the flickr community.

there is a way to do this actually, see my post here:
flickr.com/groups/flickrhacks/discuss/56607/7215760116773...
it relates to a different script, but the 2 scripts work in the same way, so you can use the same method.

yes you need to reinstall the script in that case.

SuaNoi wrote

yes there is a way to transfer saved group selections from one computer to another. you first need to type into the address bar of the browser the following: about:config

then enter "greasemonkey" in the filter box then look for the entry that starts greasemonkey.scriptvals steeev.f2o.org/flickr flickr - multi group sender
then right click on that line and select copy value.

you now need to paste this value into an email or document, and transfer it to the new computer

then you need to go to the new browser, type about:config again, and look for the same entry (if you havent created any saved selections yet in the new browser/computer, the entry you are looking for wont exist, so make sure u have created at leat one saved selection on the new computer before attempting this) right click the corresponding entry as before, this time select "Modify" now copy and paste the value you saved previously into the box and click ok,

that should do the trick,

Hi!

Thanks for the tool, it's really very useful! :-)

BTW, I noticed that it will still list the groups to which the picture already belong... so I made a small hack to remove the used groups from the list, adding the code below to line #199 -- i.e.,right before the call to unsafeWindow.toggle_multi();

//-- Don't show groups where picture was already posted
var groups = document.body.innerHTML.match(/>(.+?)\(Pool\)/g);
if (groups) {
for(var i = 0; i |)/g,'').replace(' \(Pool\)','');
g = g.replace(/([.*+?|(){}[\]\\])/g, '\\$1');
g = new RegExp(''+g+'');
goodies.innerHTML = goodies.innerHTML.replace(g,'');
}
}
//--

I don't know if this is the best way to do it (maybe it's much slower than necessary), but I'm sure that you (or someone else) can think of a better way to implement this in a next release... ;-)

Hi Steeev. I don't know if you've noticed that Flickr increased the size of the graphics they use for Check Marks and X Marks. You use those same graphics in this script. I've found that the new graphics "pile up on top of each other." (I don't know how else to describe it.) Technically, everything still works fine, but it looks weird since the icons are significantly larger than the name of the group they are supposed to describe.

At first, I thought I'd done something to make just my check mark graphics larger, so I started a discussion in the Help Forum. I have now asked if there is another (possibly the old) graphic available for you to use in your coding. If you're interested in monitoring the discussion, it is here:

It's probably just me ... I've been having trouble with my eyes lately. So I've changed my desktop to use a gray background. I've even instructed Firefox to use my desktop color choices on web pages. After I made that change, some things are a little more difficult to distinguish in the Flickr interface, but it's not really a problem because I know it so well.

The main problem I have is that the background for the window that opens with this script is now transparent. I can technically see the list of groups, but I also see the image in the background. So I can only read the group names when they scroll in front of a light colored section of the image. If the group name is in front of a dark section of the photo, I can't read it at all.

Is there any way to tell the window to use a solid gray background instead of becoming transparent?

I love this script...and I`ve been using it extensively for a time now...actually, it`s probably the only reason I use such a sucking bad browser as Firefox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, the script doesn`t work anymore; for a couple of weeks, all my saved selections were regularly deleted for some unknown reasons...and I had to start all over again!!!! Now, after I installed the Greasemonkey update yesterday...I don`t even have to do that, because the saved selections just aren`t saved anymore.

Which means that I have to select a group individually each time...which means that Organise is much better...which means goodbye Firefox and Welcome to Avant Browser, Opera...

The Greasemonkey Security Update discussion has a workaround solution suggested by rgdaniel which involves reinstalling the previous Greasemonkey script addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/748. Version 0.7.2007.

I had the same problem and going back to the prior version now has all my scripts restored and working, not only Multi Group Sender but Contacts and Groups Organizer as well.

According to the comments in that group, the security problem with Greasemonkey is probably not a problem if it is used solely within Flickr.

@quetzalcoatl* Depending on how you've set up the Advanced Options in Firefox, each time you open Firefox, it checks for updates and will try to install any new add on. You should be given a dialog box that asks if you want to install the add on. To stay with the older version of Greasemonkey, don't install the new version.

The script doesn't seem to work at all with Firefox 3.0b3 and the latest greasemonkey.. Clicking the send to groups button does nothing, not even the standard (non script) add-to-group menu.

Can alone commendatory speak concerning this script. I have one problem. FF is version 2.0.0.12 and I can't add group. If mark for example 3 groups and press OK me them doesn't add to his list. Where is solution hiding?
