Meetup page for signup
Time: 9-11am, Sunday May. 4
Where: The Rocks, Sydney - we'll meet up near Circular Quay. Details & map to follow soon.
Local organiser: www.flickr.com/photos/captin_nod/
Details: This photowalk, part of a worldwide series of walks on May 4 2014, will take place in the historic Rocks area in Sydney. It’ll take approx. 1.5-2 hours, and will be a relatively easy 2km walk, covering some of the oldest parts of Sydney and a trip through time back to colonial-era Sydney. Walkers will be able to compare contemporary views with photographs contributed to the Commons on Flickr from various local institutions.
At the end of the walk we’ll convene at a pub and hopefully have a photo competition for the best photo taken on the walk :)
Notes: We hope to have a few local speakers from some of these institutions to talk about the history of the area, Flickr and the Commons. Please also note that the route will probably involve stairs at various points.

Sounds good, although 9 am may be a little early for people coming from out of town - I'm two hours from the City by train and on Sundays they're an hour apart.

@ - no problem. The 9am start is just a placeholder - I'll probably adjust it to a bit later very soon :)

Time is good, place is good!

Looks like it's near the Harbour Master Steps opposite Cadman's Cottage.

I have some notes on Rocks history and archaeology I can bring along to share for anyone interested.

Cheers, Jack

I will put together some history and early photos.

Anyone wanting to catch up on some of the fascinating history of The Rocks couldn't do better than my colleague Grace Karskens' entry in the Dictionary of Sydney - dictionaryofsydney.org/entry/the_rocks

And here is the set of 1900 plague photos of the Rocks by photographer John Degotardi Jr - www.flickr.com/photos/statelibraryofnsw/sets/721576268145...

Thanks, Jack
