I'm so excited for this project. This will be the perfect one to make while watching the olympics this year. I've ordered my paper pieces and I'm ready to go! Quick question: I have several of Camille Roskelley's layer cakes (vintage modern, ruby, bliss, cotton blossoms.....yes, I have been hoarding them for waaaaay too long). Will I have enough from 4 layer cakes and a few FQ's to do all the flowers? I've purchased yardage for the vines, leaves, and background, but I don't want to run out. Maybe this will take me long enough that I might have to order marmalade to complete it! Thanks for sharing this beauty with us.

Yes I'm in ^__^
I love Hexies!!!!
LookWhatladyfacemade [deleted] 3 years ago
I'm in! Ordered my paper pieces this morning. I think I'm going to use the same fabrics as Katy for the flowers, kona ash for the background and a text print for the flower centers. WAY excited to do something so detailed and involved (for me anyway)! These are going to be gorgeous quilts, I can't wait to see what everyone does!

p.s. I am going to call mine "hexy and I know it" because that song always plays in my head when I see hexagons in something awesome like this...hope it's ok that I renamed mine a bit?

Hi, I'm from Malaysia and would very much like to join in as I do love hexies! I've planned to use the same collection as Katy too and have ordered the paper pieces as well. I'm eagerly awaiting for them to arrive and can't wait to begin! Thanks for having this quilt along and looking forward to joining in the fun!

Wow I love this quilt and when GM said it was going to be a quilt along I screamed the house down... Well not really but a squeal did pass my lips:) I was thinking I would use Hope Valley fabric but have been a little unsure.. Can anyone help me plse:):)
LookWhatladyfacemade [deleted] 3 years ago
I think the hope valley will look fantastic! I've seen so many gorgeous quilts with Hope Valley and a darker grey background and they're stunning, it will be gorgeous!
Annjan 3 years ago
thank you for the confidence to go ahead and use H/ Valley. I only have some of the range and plan to use a few other fabrics too. Have started cutting and making some hexys and loving it :):):)

I have started basting mine as well and have one flower completed just to see how they will look.

I'm cheating too as I'm doing the blcoks with two friends so we only have 24 and a bit each to do. :) Mine are all basted and nine are sewn together.
Lynn Carson Harris PRO 3 years ago
I was up till 1:30 cutting hexagons last night. I broke out the half inch papers.

Not gutsy enough to try the quarter inch ones that somehow ended up in my cart when I placed my order.

I'm getting them ready for car time!

Can't believe I'm doing this but my papers arrived yesterday...and I started looking at fabric lines...ekkkk!! Must use my stash, must use my stash....good grief!! I'm not sure if I'm going to use brights, civil war repros, or 1930 repros. All I know is I want to have some cut out for our road trip next week. Between hand sewing and my Kindle I can't seem to get anything done. HA!! Oh how I love summer! ;^)

Picked out my center fabrics from a Kona Cotton Charm pack. Dropped them off to a local seller to match or name them and order it for me. :). What to do in the meantime.....

Just ran out of papers... Ordered more. Tap. tap. tap... It's going to feel like a long wait. I'm feeling a bit of an addiction coming on!

Take out the middle paper from each flower and reuse them.

I've done 19 flowers now and my friend has done 24 so we're over half way done.

I'm in at last. I'm using only stash-fabrics, and FINALLY cutting into long-held, "too precious to be used" fabrics - lots of text prints, and lots of favourites. So I'm calling mine the 'textyhexymf'.

Still at the cutting, cutting, lots-of-fussy-cutting stage, but started basting last night. Waiting on my template to arrive, so that will speed things up a lot.

To keep things interesting, I'm going to start stitching tomorrow - so I'll be at all stages then! - cutting, basting and stitching :P

Have been loving looking at everyone's pics. Lots of very gorgeous fabrics in the mix! see you, Cat

I figured I would work on these during all the TV time I'll spend watching the Olympics. But US Open Golf & Wimbledon came first & I have 41 flowers done already! I may be sewing the flowers together by the time the Olympics come!
I posted a picture of some of them. I'm using all my leftover Innocent Crush & Loulouthi fabrics from the Swoon-along and other projects.
MaryAnn/Ca 3 years ago
I have finally got the templates, the papers and I decided to go with Amy Butler LARK. I should be working on binding instead I am ironing and then cutting! yep the Hexy got me too.

Two of us have finished our hexagons so just 20 to go to finish. They can thne arrange them whilst I'm away.
Rosa's Quilt & Tonic 3 years ago
Just recieved my papers from PaperPieces - free international shipping so great deal!
I have actually no time for this but then I read about using Hope Valley. I have a lot so its time to cut it. Problem is what to use as centers?
I have pulled some very light, flowery Kaffe Fassett fabrics, some with light grey background - think they will go okay with HV.
I don't baste - I glue :-)
DeeRoo G PRO 3 years ago
I have 476 hexies basted....42 more to go then I'm starting the flowers!:)
I find I'm actually faster using thread than glue....if I use glue I have to sit at the table....I really love my couch so I use thread!;)

Rosa's Quilt & Tonic 3 years ago
I love my couch too - and don't need a table for gluing the hexies. Its all about how you hold your hands - that way you can glue everywhere, trains, planes, the couch etc :-).
LookWhatladyfacemade [deleted] 3 years ago
I love making these! Well, I haven't even finished basting all mine yet, but it's become such a treat to sit and just work on them. Totally relaxes me!!

I glue basted sat on the couch with a tray on my knees.

I have always wanted to make a red and white quilt, have decided to do that with this QAL. What I can't decide is what color to make my centers. Thought I would make them the same green as the vine along the edge, but my quilt group thought it would make it look Christmasy. Would it be a true red and white quilt if I add any other color at all? Trying to finish a wedding gift quilt, so I have not started cutting, still time to change my mind if I can't figure out the centers I suppose.

I've now basted all hexies and now I'm enjoying to sew the flowers together!

Hello everyone, I would like to join in as well.
I am new
to flicker, so have not worked out how to up load photos yet, but I have half my hexies thread basted. I am using flea market fancy with the browns as my centres.
DeeRoo G PRO 3 years ago
Ah...but my problem is I'm a very messy, messy gluer!:)

Why don't you make the center the opposite so if you are using a predominately red fabric for one flower put white in the center and if it's more white put red in the center....or how about a nice light grey...it's not a color right?:)
CoveredByThread 3 years ago
Hi All! I've been working away at this and now I would love some opinions! I'm using Cocoon by Valori Wells for my flowers, and originally planned to make all my centers Kona Papaya:
www.flickr.com/photos/79747330@N07/7552340130/in/pool-fat...

BUT now I'm thinking I might like to add some pink centers as well? I'd love to know what you think!

Oh man, I'm in trouble! I totally do not need another project, but I have been wanting to try a hexy quilt and this one is to die for! Count me in!
goneaussiequilting PRO Posted 3 years ago. Edited by goneaussiequilting (member) 3 years ago
I agree with DeeRoo. You should make the centers the opposite color of the predominate flower color. Also, I wouldn't use any green at all, just keep it red and white. I think the leaves would be fine being an opposite color to the background. I think it would keep it looking more like a true red/white quilt without any Christmas feeling to it.

i started my hexy's last summer and quickly got busy and set it aside. At the time i didn't know a resource for the papers and so I made my own. They are slightly smaller then whats called for so I am doing more.I picked them up again last month and going strong since. I have 72 flowers complete and I'm hoping 94 will be enough. I am obsessed and carry them with me all the time. Stitching on breaks at work, waiting to pick someone up, or just visiting with family. My kids think I'm crazy. I'm excited for the next step. I'm so glad to see so many doing this hex-along.

72! That is awesome! They are so addicting, but I'm only up to 20 now. Wonder if I can keep it going to make it to 72!
