Hey all, your feedback has been received and translated. I am thinking of doing at least very beginner basic strobist workshop. I would start off going over the basics for the first half, then a shoot afterwords to really practice what you've learned. I would like to keep class size down to a small size, so if a lot of people want in, I guess I will have to do it multiple nights. What do you all think? I don't have a specific date yet but I would like to do it soon. Maybe the first one this month? Reply if you would like to do this.

*UPDATE*
Sunday the 14th. At the DPI studio. Start at 2. $10 per person (cash, and bring exact change please)

JustinSinks Posted 8 years ago. Edited by JustinSinks (admin) 8 years ago
All you would need is a camera with a hotshoe or PC sync connector.

Tina, lets do it. You already have a model lined up for something I just announced yesterday? Is it Peter?

Brian I may be able to use some help! Ill keep you posted, depends on how many people wanna dig in. I remember you doing a little class on light a few years back, but I had to leave right after you started due to work.

Well so far there are more people willing to help out than want to actually do it... ha.
And Josh, I'd like to let you help, but I'll have to tell you we start 2 hours earlier so that you'll be there on time ;)

Date?

JustinSinks 8 years ago
No date yet Justin. There's still not enough people. But it will be close to the end of the month or early next month.
Lanie Cakes 8 years ago
I would like to learn. I don't own the thing you said I would need to have... not the camera; the other thing.
admin
Mel, your camera has a hotshoe so you are set. no need for the PC socket.

Ha, sorry to confuse. If you have a DSLR then you are good to go. Unless youre a Sony, then youll need the stupid adapter.
nostalgicearth 8 years ago
You're a stupid adaptor! ;)

DPI facility is available for this -- when will it be???

I am a bit overwhelmed with my new flash. I'd be interested.

still interested

I was on the fence about this for a while, but if you'd have me (and I'm not busy) I'd like to be included. Sadly, I don't have a DSLR, but I use a canon sx10. It does have a hotshoe mount; is that enough? I also have CHDK loaded, though I really don't know how to use it much. I would really be a problem child. :)

Yould be fine ;)

Ok, first one I'm thinking the 13 or 14th of this month. Who all would be good with one of those days? Cost is still needing to be worked out, depends on how many people we can get.
melodic birds [deleted] 8 years ago
I could definitely benefit from lighting instruction and am available on both days. :D

Lets do it Sunday the 14th. At the DPI studio. Start at 2. $10 per person (cash, and bring exact change please). Anyone wanting to come please respond. If youre busy this day dont worry, I will do it again another day. Any questions feel free to ask or msg me.

As long as it doesn't last well into the evening, I'm game for Sunday.

But could you please tell me where the DPI studio is? The website states "We are actively searching for the best location with the features we will need at the price that will fit the projected budget.". I'm not in the loop - where can I find it?

Yes, the facility is not officially "public" yet. It is at 405 E Superior St. in the middle suite (140).

OK, my number is 218 Three90 Three094 in case you need it. Parking for DPI on weekends is either in front of the building where the meters are or behind the building there are a lot of parking spots (they are "reserved" for the other things in the same building but on weekends we are the only ones there and you can park there)

Bring your camera

I plan on being there as well. :)

Thanks everyone!!! So, did this help?? Much better than the last couple? If so, do you think if we did another "normal" strobist meet you would have a better idea what was going on and be able to figure it out?
Lanie Cakes 8 years ago
This was great. I really liked being introduced to all of the different lighting options and learning the process for choosing my settings, then testing each out and making the proper adjustments. Thanks again Justin. A normal strobist meet will be a fun utilization of it all now. :)
melodic birds [deleted] 8 years ago
This was awesome, Justin! You did a great job of teaching in a way that was easily understood. I had pretty much no clue what I was doing before this, now I feel like getting a good photo using lights won't be hit and miss. I'm definitely ready for a normal strobist meet where I can practice what I learned (trivia: did you know in Canada we don't use "learned"...we use "learnt"[and dreamt]...just thought I'd share...). Thanks for doing this, Justin!! :D

Still working on attaining enough computers and software to pull this off.

But there could be classes on the horizon for those with laptops!
QuietDelusions 8 years ago
I, too, say thanks! Granted, I am not the type to shoot people in a studio, but I'm still really glad I went. I am still such a beginner with photos it's really good to know HOW things work. I promise I wasn't just smiling and nodding - you helped!

It's great to learn, cause knowledge is power! :P
ShawNicholas 8 years ago
I'm really bummed I couldn't make it. Hopefully there will be another one? I think a second class was mentioned earlier. Sounds like Justin is a great teacher, so I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed for a second class!
cr_luv 8 years ago
when is the second class? I really need some help figuring out this flash thing. And it sounds like you take people at all levels.

We could have another one MAYBE in December, depending on the availability of DPI and everyone that wants to attend. Or we could hold off till Jan.
I would love it if it were in Dec...
