Hey guys! There is a 3rd party battery grip for the 7D out now, and I ordered it to see how it would work. Here is the link to it:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0032JTOBM/ref=oss_product

I have to say first off, I was not a fan of 3rd party grips. I had got one for my 30D, and it was crap. It never fit correctly, some of the buttons would stop working so I would I have to take the grip off and put it back on to get it to work. AND it was HUGE compared to the canon version and the camera itself. So I ended up I not using it much.

I took a chance and ordered the above grip for the 7D. It costs around 90 dollars less than the Canon version, and so far its great! In fact, better than the canon version. The grip is molded well, small, everything works, it fits to the camera snuggly. So, if you're thinking of getting a grip, check this one out. If you want to see mine, let me know.

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep this in mind when I get ready to purchase one.

Are you using canon brand batteries with it?

Haha, I still bleed Nikon, I'm actually planning on using it primarily for video work.

Max, out of curiosity, why not get a Nikon body that has video? Is the 7D than much better of a performer than what Nikon offers in Croppers with Video?

nikon doesn't have 1080p (yet)

edit: I have the Nikon version of this grip, and it failed due to condensation from coming inside...

i was a bit surprised how easily moisture built up inside it, i didn't take any special measures on my camera/lenses, but the grip failed. for what it's worth.

Makes sense Drew (about the 1080p) I am surprised they haven't released one yet.

Shawn, Nikons video codec is motion jpg, like drew said limited to 720p, limited to 24p, and the only real nikon even worth considering for video that's not super jelloish is the D3s. Also, I think the D3s is limited to 5 minutes of recording, versus 12 (or is it 14?) with the 7D.
