Casio or Canon?

In the somewhat near future I plan to buy another "sub dslr" type camera. While I thought it would be a easy choice, just going for the sx-20 or sx-1 canons. I saw a Casio that caught my eye, it has a CMOS sensor + it also can take up to 1000fps video + cheap. It sounds really temping, but in return I lose a canon hot shoe and swivel out screen + canon brand. hmm... thoughts?

Casio $329 CMOS

Canon SX20 $349 CCD

I'd go with the SX1 for the RAW capabilities. :-D

From what I see...the SX20 does not offer RAW, am I correct?

If it were me I would get something with a hot shoe. Super Duper high Speed sync FTW.

The G10 is $479

The SX20 doesn't have raw, the Casio EX-FH25 however does have raw and so does the SX1.

The main purpose for the camera will be for video / photos while sailing. So I want the camera to be good in both of those regards.

The G10 shoots 720P video, shoots RAW and has full manual controls.

I think I'd personally go for the Panasonic LX3 over the g10 "lx3 has better low light, HD video, and slightly cheaper". As far as I can tell the g10 doesn't do 720 HD, just sub HD.

But I'm tempted to rethink my plan of buying a compact p/s slr and go for a rangefinder style camera.

The 1000FPS video though sounds super fun to play with however..

My guess is the 1000fps is done at like 3mp.

Many people are drooling over the Panasonic GF1 which is a couple hundred more than you are looking to spend.

P.S. There is a GF1 body with 2 batteries and all of the accessories that came with it. $500

You need 5 posts I think to see the For sale section though.
Here is a good sample shot thread too newschoolofphotography.com/cameras/22504-gf1-samples-thre...

That GF1 was reduced to $460 today. Let me know if you are interested Karl.

hm.. that is tempting.. But I was planning on keeping the price around $300-$400, since it will be in a hazardous environment, so being a bit cheap would be nice.

So Nikon Coolpix P1000 or Canon SX-20 or Casio Ex-fh25 ?

The nikon is looking like my favorite right now.
