Hi everyone,

My name is Robert, from Superior. I joined the group a few weeks ago, and thought I should finally say hi! My friend Cassandra (Madge82) also joined recently. I have been a fan of the DPG for quite a while and am always impressed with what you produce. I consider myself to be a beginner, and I'm always looking to learn new stuff. I just traded in my Rebel XS for a 7D, and am absolutely loving it so far. I have the 7D kit lens (28-135mm), the Canon 50mm f1.8, and a Sigma 150-500mm which I just picked up last week (and I thankfully am no longer reliant upon my Canon 75-300mm f4-5/6 III for long shots). My favorite subjects vary a lot. I love wildlife, but as you can see from my photostream, my subjects can be kind of random.

My goal this winter is to capture one of the snowy owls that have been hanging around Barkers and the Duluth port. Any tips on that would be much appreciated!

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Robert

Welcome to the group! And welcome to the 7D club ;). I know where a very nice eagle roosts, and I have seen a tagged snow owl many times outside the fish company below the hightbridge on the wi side. Hope that helps! Oh and we have a meeting on the 21st, come and hang out!

Thanks Sharksurfer! I will have to check that spot out. I have never even seen one, so I'm not really sure how I should go about finding them. What time of day do you tend to see it and about how high up, if you don't mind?

Heard about the meeting from Cassie... will try to be there!

Well the snow owls have been on the ground when I see them. Last time i saw one it was guarding a dead pigeon from some crows. I turned my truck around and parked near it and got my camera out and opened my door. It then promptly flew away.
I mostly see them in the early morning, but that's just because that's when I am there.
