I seem to remember a thread awhile back about a place or places to purchase frames on the cheap, but I can't find the thread. Does anyone have any ideas of places to purchase frames for relatively cheap? I've got to get some for the upcoming show.

Goodwill + Spray Paint is the cheapest frames I've come across.

The cheapest place I have found to get frames is Mickles in Duluth . They have some unstained and unpainted wood ones for about $10 . You will have to get glass and matting separt .

it might not be the cheapest, but it is really easy and should be mentioned - WHCC now does framing www.whcc.com/products/prints-finishing/frames/

I've always wondered if moulding + compound miter saw + time = cheap but good frame. The only thing I can think of is that they lack the "notch" for the glass.

many of the photographers from the Northern Lights Camera Club use www.documounts.com (as Shawn stated).

I work at Michaels arts & crafts store in the framing dept and we have a fair amount of basic sizes from 24x36in to 2x3in. Usually most of the frames week by week are either 40% or 50% off most of the time. like stated above, we do carry unfinished frames as well as one that are open back frame. Also, sectional kits which you can make your own sizes ranging from i believe 6in by 36in. For more info just find me at Michaels at the framing counter ( where i hide all day putting frames and artwork together)

good luck !

I build my frames. If you have the time + miter saw, you can buy frame moalding at Menards (already notched for glass). You have to dig for the straight ones though.
