We will hang the show on Wed Sept 2nd at 5:30pm
Who can contribute some $$ for drinks and snacks. Wine and cheese? can we take donations at the hanging and go from there?

ALl I have right now is the show is for the month of September at The Venue 2024 West Superior Street

Opening night?? not sure yet, music (for sure but not sure yet)

There are 2 events durring the month that will be at the venue that will bring in lots and lots of traffic. I will get all the details out APAP.

That is all i really have for now. not limits on sizes or theme. this is your show. hang what you like.

get your prints ready by the end of this month. We will hang early in Sept and the show will be mid September. I will get info set in stone this week.

There are now 2 openings. Laramie and Shawn backed out. Great opportunity with 3 different events being held at the Venue there will be tons of traffic for this show. Anyone want in? 4 to 6 pieces..

Also with Laramie out we need ideas for opening night music!!! Anyone what to take this on? Were looking at the opening night to be Sept 14th or 15th I think??

We would have to pay for the pizza and beer for the band. The night is September 16th that's a Wednesday night. Im thinking only 1 band. and if you don't have someone I have another idea. Due to the fact this is more a gathering and a party do we need a band? We might have Starfire who could DJ the event? then we could all pitch in for some wine and snacks and have it a more social event? Im open for ideas...

Some advertising needs to be done. The deal is kind of based on the launch of theDUSU.com thedusu.com/ as part of their launch week. The DPG was instrumental in the making of this web sight and we want to showcase the DPG and how cool we are.

Hang date will be the 30th or 31st.

Band?? Who did you have in mind Nat.

I iwll talk to Martin at the venue and see if he has some advertising in mind. otherwise we need to make something happen soon

Just wanted to let everyone know that Fuse Duluth is holding their monthly "happy hour" at the Venue on Sept. 10th and the DPG is mentioned for having art up. :)

Due to shipping delays my stuff will not be ready until Wednesday. Canvas on Demand did promise me it will be here then.

Andrew and I can donate some bottles of wine again for the opening.

Oh boy. I guess we will hang on Wednesday at 5:30pm

Advertising.. I am doing a spot on KUMD and I know Martin has sent out some group e-mail invites and it will also be a launch event for the DuSu .. I say just let everyone you can know via e-mail and phone calls.

So Wed hang at 5:30 to 6:30ish. Details on band or no bands will be worked out by then and that night we can talk about food and drink.

AZNinPro~ The photographs will hang all month, but the opening reception will be held on the 16th....basically a night to be social, and invite everyone you know to come and enjoy the refreshments and the artwork and possibly a band?


Is someone making a Facebook-DPG Event? They've been awesome in the past for making it really easy to invite people :)

Okay, so this show is for the launch of the DuSu? That's fine and all, but there was never any mention of this in this thread or elsewhere. I just realized this when coming across the DuSu launch page on Facebook. I thought we were just doing a show. If the Sept 16th event is the launch party for the DuSu and our photos are just hung for entertainment, then I just wonder why the DuSu/Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation isn't paying for food and drink?

I'm glad that I am not the only one who is a bit baffled by this. Besides the financial aspect, as an artist I think it is bad form for the organizer(s) to not tell me/us that our show is actually just an extension of a launch party for another organization. I feel a little used frankly, and I think it was disengenious to not make sure that all participating artists were made aware of this previously. I mean, some people may not have agreed to be part of the show had we all been aware of this. (Not necessarily because anyone doesn't support the organization's cause, but because the photos aren't likely to get as much attention if they are part of another event, among other reasons.)

I can say for certain that I'm not okay with spending money to advertise for this event and pay for food and drink out of my own pocket, if it is being billed a launch party for the DuSu. I am pretty sure that the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation can afford to do that themselves, you know?

I am sorry and I promise this will be my last post until one of the organizers chime in. (Aaron?) But I just looked at the DuSu launch party page on Facebook again and first the DPG is listed as being "featured" under the event title "DuSu Launch Party", but then the DPG is being called the hosts of the event. If the DPG is going to host an event, then it seems like the the entire DPG should have been made aware of this.

I know I am merely a "new member" but following a thread like this makes me wary of donating time and money to a group that wouldn't be completely inclusive to the members supporting it.

i made that facebook event under the DPG group so that everyone in the group who is partcipating the show would be able to send an invite out to their friends to come see their work.

Maybe i'll make a few changes so that it focuses more on the DPG part, and less on the DuSu.

facebook really isn't ever an "official" sort of thing. it's just another way to get the word out on anything.

OK here is the deal and sorry for the confusion....

Up until last night I wasn't sure the involvement of the DuSu. I had to proceeded thinking that this was only a DPG thing and it is.

The Dusu will basicly have some info at the show.. their launch week is the same week and it is a good way to get some more people out there for the show.. But this is all about the DPG!!! This is our show and all the planning has been done by us. So to say that this is a Dusu event is not so true. they will be there and they will hand out info about the dusu but the planning, the show, the music, the snacks, the beverages are all DPG!

If the dusu looks to be heading this thing corrections will be made and this will all work out. If you are that disturbed by the way this all ironed out I apologize.. Like I said I was trying to figure it all out still as of last night and I wanted to keep the options open..

Please understand and please ... this can really be a great show and it is ours and we can make it what we want...

Also note.. I have little control how the Dusu and others talk or write about this show. Just be assured that the DPG will be the main reason for this thing and without the dpg... there would be no show....

Okay, thank you both for the clarification. It was just a bit baffling to see a "DuSu launch party" Facebook page with the DuSu logo (not the DPG logo). I'm not sure how Facebook isn't "official" since if people see it billed the way it was they would have thought it was a DuSu event with DPG just providing entertainment. (That is certainly how it came across to me!) If information is going to be put out there about this show anywhere whether it be on Facebook, fliers, or via email then "DuSu Launch Party" shouldn't get first billing if this is a DPG show. How DuSu bills it isn't an issue per say, I'm more concerned with how our organizers bill it.

However, if DuSu does end up doing advertising stating that this is a DuSu launch party, then IMO DuSu needs to contribute funding to help pay for food and drink.

I plan to talk to martin today about food and drink and what we can bring and use. after that I will post what is ok and we can come up with a game plan on what we can each bring or donate. I totally understand that not all of us has a tone of $$$ so Im not expecting much.

On the music side of things I have Kathy Mctavish playing from 7 - 8 & AL SParhawk from Low / Retribution Gospel Choir from 8 - 9

I have the dnt the wave on board and kumd radio interview and all of us facebookers and Martin who has over 1000 local Facebook contacts that he will inform.. should be a good show.

For the record: A couple weeks ago fallfaceforward asked why the show was happening or if it was in honor of some event, and MOEVIEW stated it was kinda based on the launch of thedusu.com as part of their launch week.

for food: depending on what's decided i could run to Sam's Club and pick up some stuff. They have some great spreads to go on crackers and lots of other finger food type stuff.

Amanda, I do remember that and I too learned about DuSu then for the first time. My issue earlier today was not DuSu's involvement, it was that per the Facebook page as it looked this morning it appeared that it was going to be a DuSu event, (i.e. because it was titled "DuSu Launch Party") hosted and paid for by the DPG artists. Being "kind of based on" and what the Facebook page said this morning are two different things.

Not that it matters now, as the confusion has been cleared up!

For food I told Aaron last night that I'd bring a cheese and cracker tray. Unless we decide to buy stuff from Sam's I will still plan on doing that. Natalie, if we end up getting food from Sam's I'd be happy to meet up with you there and help pick stuff out.

I confirmed that this is a DPG show. The dusu will be there with info but thats all that they are doing. Also just so everyone knows. Several DPG member have been working hard on the dusu project and they and martin at 3five have been a HUGE supporter of the dpg. I know it is only a few of us but without Martin and 3five and the dusu the Extreme Makeover would not have happened for the dpg and I see more big things for us as a group. But long to short. This is a DPG show.. and I am happy to have the dusu and 3five there. A

Food. Im good with what ever. I think cheese and crackers and wine is the best simple solution. So where does that leave us? I have 20 from Karl and Brian. I can chip into that and get other beverages like soda and such for the non drinkers..
