OTish...Need some hardware help

So we use this nifty devise at work to secure infants while taking x-rays. As I was strapping in a little one today I had a wondrous idea for a infant/toddler poser.I don't really do child photography but I like to build stuff and know many people who do.

My knowledge base in hardware here is lacking though. What I'm looking for is a type of bracket I can install vertically and have an attachment move up and down along the track. Anyone have any idea of such an apparatus? Closest I got was possibly modifying a drawer slide track. Any ideas would be super great!

Some high power hydraulics would help you move the attachment up and down. Maybe one from a Cat 385 excavator just in case you get a lil chunky kid.

Sounds like some of the exercise seating I have seen, pegs set the X/Y axis settings.

Thanks, I get a few pics of what I'm talking about soon. I guess I could also bum around the hardware store till I find something that looks right. I ended up building a stool this week instead and have now started shelving, looks like March is woodworking project month for me.
