Why would you want to put these on a D40 when you have a fantastic Nikon F2 sitting right there?

I haven't had any issues with fitting any old Nikon (or for Nikon) lenses onto my digital bodies. The D40 is built different?

when i put on a lens it first says "lens not attached" then then blinks F - - on the screen.

then i check the question mark and it says "check lens. Non-CPU lenses can be used in manual mode only....

so with that info i figured out that putting it on Manual mode it "works" yet it still ofcourse blinks the F - -

so on that note " everything works" and i just have to manual move the F stops on the old lenses but change the shutter speed on the body.

awesome - thanks a lot HBRstudios.
now i know it works lol

You will only improve on your understanding of the basics of photography by being forced to set everything yourself. ;)

( sjixxxy ) to your question... yes of course I'll regain my understanding of how everything works manually. I used to use a Cannon A-1 thru high school and learned only on manual. I actually miss the old days we could go back in the darkroom and project our images on to the paper and run them thru the chemicals. So yes I'll relearn and get a better judgement on lighting situations indoor and outdoor and know what to shoot at, then to look at the auto settings in what it tells me on my digital camera.

Thanks,
