OT: Video games

I want someone to release a new 2D platfiormer that's "Super Mario Bros. 3" awesome. I really don't pay attention to the video game industry -- it's not about stuff that's fun anymore, it's about buzzwords and focus group studies.

Seriously, who thought that it would be a good idea to abandon the 2D platformer? Super Mario Brothers? Metroid? Sonic The Hedgehog? WTF?

I'm looking forward to Spore. Simcity was my first video game in 1988 when it came out -- my parents bought it because it was "educational". I must've been the only 6 year old who thought city planning was pretty much the best way that someone could spend the summer.

I might actually upgrade my computer for Spore. The last time I upgraded was when Half-Life 2 came out.

I've been wanting a sprite based RPG like they used to make them forever now. I figure that with todays technology, and using 2d as an artistic choiche instead of a requirment could be mega awesome.

I'll probably upgrade my computer for Fallout 3. 10 years now I've been salivating for that sequel.

1. You were not the only 6-year old who thought city planning was fun. That and the Carmen Sandiego game on my Color Classic wasted many an awesome hour.

2. As far as 2D platformers go, I hear Braid is pretty sweet, and the Bionic Commando remake, BC: Rearmed, is pretty awesome. Rearmed is a lot like the old game, just with better graphics, although they did throw in some top-down 3D stuff.

Yeah, i have all my fave NES games downloaded on my WII now. I do miss the simpler times of simple graphics. I have been wanting to play Doom and Doom 2 for the longest time also...
