I need some stuff. be on the lookout for...

Okay, so i have a project in mind that i'm very excited for.. without going into TOO much detail, i need some things.

-the most extravagant dress i can find... not prom-y, not wedding-y...
-the most ornate full length mirror i can find (maybe a vanity mirror would work?)
-a barren intersection... (does duluth have a road course for taking driving tests??)
-maybe 3 or 4 able bodied guys to (possibly) catch a falling female... from not any higher than 7 or 8 feet...

like i said dont want to give away too much just yet, as its for my summer photography course and both me and my prof. are pretty excited about it. but i'll take any help i can get...

These items cant have any sentiment as they're most certainly going to get trashed.

thanks
-drew

p.s. if it takes monetary compensation, i can try. but... be reasonable. (and be on the lookout at garage sales!)

How about a crashpad in case those able bodied guys are butterfingers?

Semi-Ornate... Big but not "Full-Length"... Not self-standing... But would consider helping, and also consider donating the use of the following mirror for curious project described above...

wow, well thanks... that didnt take long to at least get this ball rolling...

as to the project, i may as well explain it... (but no copy-cats!) haha...

so, i'd been sifting through some of my old photos looking for an idea for this project and it hit me, there were a couple of images who's compositions alone created so much tension, and then the content just lent itself to that tension..

my projected idea.

create a series of images in which potential and kinetic energy are the primary subject. using models, elaborate staging and lighting. and the EXACT pre-determined moment the potential/kinetic mesh perfectly.

Most of my initial ideas involve some sort of peril. which, unfortunately involves some sort of actual inflicted pain (hopefully minimal) on the models part. I figure, i'll take on the most painful one whatever that might be (still deciding) but a couple of initial ideas...

-someone falling down an elegant flight of stairs (maybe pogo-sticking? then falling? sorry randeezee but you come to mind)

-girl blowing bubble gum while balloon pops (gonna get tricky)

-someone playing an old beat-up organ in a top-hat... falling backwards off chair (trust me, this ones just waiting for a top hat)

-friend dressed fancily smashing full length mirror against rocks

-girl falling/jumping off ledge (with perspective to avoid safety net)

-staged car accident with my buddies crotch rocket

its kind of a play off of Cartier-Bresson's "decisive moment" but more like... "pre-determined" moment, which is what i will be calling this series... probably.

anyways. if anybody has any better ideas feel free to contact me and if you wanna help. THANKS!

duluth does not have a closed road driving test area.

now by extravagant dress i'm assuming you mean you want something long and flowly? bright colors?
i have an Indian garb that may work. it's very modest and simple, bright turquoise and white. i'll see if i can get a picture on here.

crash pad sounds like a good idea...

the mirror pictured isn't exactly what i'm looking for, but i'll keep it in mind (thanks)

the indian garb sounds interesting, but again, it can't carry any sentiment. it might get wet, or dirty... (probably not much worse than that though)

do we know of an empty intersection NOBODY goes to? where we could put a few cones up and people could just drive around us?

thanks everyone!

sorry if i feel like i'm in a panic, i have three weeks to make this idea into a book.

Intersection... What time of day? For how long? What does the intersection need to look like? Do you need a particular feel? Do you want it to look like a neighborhood? City? Abandoned? To answer you question... yes. such an intersection exists... depending upon the other requirements...

as for the intersection, my initial vision was (flexible) late afternoon/early evening... as the sun was getting low.

fairly wide open space if possible, not a cluttered residential or city... almost like a country road.

4 way intersection that we could inhabit for up to an hour or so... (i could of course allow for enough room to get vehicles to any of the 4 ways, with a little direction if some happened upon us)

Well, I know of some sandy roads down by solon springs, nothing but openness, and can direct the limited traffic around pretty easy.

sharksurfer... where abouts is solon springs? that might just work...

anybody interested in lending strobes or cactii for this evening. i'm going to try and tackle the bubblegum///balloon shoot and need to shoot at lower power/high frame rate to capture the balloon bursting without motion blur.

Vs2s? I can lend you mine if you like.

Between gordon and solon springs there are lots of them. In fact, if you just drive to gordon, take a left at the gas station and go about a mile out of town, just pick one, right or left. Traffic is very low. We used to go out there and "sand surf" behind my truck :)

drew...that's funny because i used to be an amazing pogo-sticker and probably still have it in me...

skark...gordon? is that by minong? i think that's the town my girlfriend's cabin is in. if so, yes...lots of intersections that aren't busy at all

Gordon is not nearly as far as minong, but prob yeah.
Thats right , I forgot about solon's 4 way stop. I do have to say I have almost been killed there many times by people that dont stop at those signs though...
(we used to skateboard down that hill)

Anna Merritt says:

The traffic east of Gordon is light...then picks up when the summer people come home...for the most part, it is and the traffic can see you for such a distance, that you could actually have someone direct it if you needed to...

Solon also would be a good spot...you would have a "town" setting...sounds interesting anyway...
