Does anyone else use an RSS/Atom reader to track the DPG?

I seem to have lost my feed as of late this morning... Whenever I attempt to connect and update my feed, it spits out an error?

Have you subscribed in the past to the DPG RSS/Atom feed?

Does it work for you as of 240pm 5/20/2008?

Oddly... my other group feeds DO work... WTF?
wouldn't surprise me. ever since Flickr started accepting videos they have been having all kinds of hiccups.

Testing this out... switch cookies off and DPG group becomes invisible, toggle back on and everything is back (including individual photo group assignment). Are there any admin controls that make a group private? I would check that first. Other groups don't seem to be affected.

thanks paul... i did poke around a bit... thinking that perhaps someone over-tightened the knobs... but didn't immediately find one... i will test on my lappy486 when i get home... and compare experiences... we have installed a new dns/dhcp box at work... and we are currently "eating our own dogfood"... perhaps it is just affecting me... as for the dogfood... tastes like sh!t... however... a few more helpings... and it will all be benign...
I emailed Moe this morning and suggested that we not allow anyone but members of the group to view discussions because of the person harassing some of our members, and it appears that it did make it semi-private. This probably is messing with the RSS feed.

It doesn't work for me either, which is a bummer.

Then again, if the problem is what AMS said, I'm all for it.

Well... I disagree completely with hiding/concealing the group discussions. We live in a mostly open and mostly free society. We have dealt with the harasser by blocking them. Let them read on... If we take specific steps that limit our ability to read and feed... then THEY WIN.

MOE...please chime in regarding the feed issue... If you did take specific censorship steps... well... I STRONGLY encourage you to UNWIND them... and let this be discussed openly at the next meeting prior to re-applying...

I am fundamentally opposed to this sort of thing... in fact, I just re-submitted payment for membership to the ACLU yesterday, oddly enough...

Furthermore... If someone is so inclined to harass... well, they know where to find you. They don't need the DPG photo or discussion stream to hunt you down. It is like locked doors and windows. If someone wants in, you can't stop them. They'll get in. These are the very very very minor risks that we assume by living in a mostly free society.

I feel so strongly about this, that if this is not put up for open discussion, then I can no longer be part of this group.
I agree with Rich. Why should we lock down the group discussions because of a harrasing person, if anything it makes us look like an elitist non public group and proves his point.
I think it is key to have our Group information public as it most likely helps others join the group.

Big Babbie's. I switched it back :} I wasn't aware that it was going to cause us problems in this manner. No big deal. The only reason for making the switch was Localm poking around looking for trouble on our group.

Thank you. It is the right thing to do.

If we are not an open group, then we are a dead group.

We can bring this up as a discussion point during the upcoming meeting. And... I hereby request IN THIS OPEN THREAD, that if localm wants to step up and air his issues... Come and discuss in a calm and professional manner. Well, at least professional. Personal slander will not be tolerated, but open disagreement is perfectly acceptable.
I have already taken that route.. Here is the e-mail I sent him a few weeks back.

I haven't introduced myself yet and I think I saw your at Luce last night. My name is Aaron I am one of the admins for Duluth Photographers Guild and I wanted to run something by you.
I'm not sure what bad blood is between you and Lcarlson and I don't intend to find out. The rules stated in the DPG mention that "personal attacks are grounds for being banned without notice, this includes attacking people, or groups of people, directly or indirectly. " Certainly hash criticisms on work is allowed but personal issues posted in a group thread is not appropriate. I have currently banned you from DPG ... If you wish to be a part of the group I will happily reinstate you. I personally know that this business is very completive and we can't possibly all get along but we need to keep the bad blood aside in this group in order to keep it positive place and make sure everyone feels welcome.

On a side note I really do enjoy your work and I appreciate your love for the local music scene and the hard work you do with supporting the scene. When I started DPG it was because of the music scene and all the photographers I saw out shooting shows. I thought it was a good idea to make a place where we could all meet up and share ideas and pool resources and to my amazement we are 124 members strong and still growing. I think you are an important part of this community and I hope we can set aside this issue and have you in our group. If you have any questions or concerns I would be happy to discuss them with you. Thanks for your time.

Yep. Excellent. You mentioned this to me earlier... and it is the right way to go... Reach out. It is his choice to be a member of our community... and if he is to participate with this group, he is to do so respectfully... again, we don't have to agree any of the time... however, as long was we disagree respectfully... then it's all cool. The slanderous approach that he has taken in the past has resulted in the current "banned" status. I hope that he understands that... and decides to take a different approach... until then... banned he remains. And OPEN we remain. Cool.
