Indeed, it was nice to finally do so. The downside is that I live in town...

A Scottish ESB? How's that different from the (typical) English ESB? My intuition says increased initial and final gravity with more caramel malt and barley flakes.

I'm ordering some Pilsner yeast, some new one-step and bottle caps tomorrow -- brew day on Saturday! I'm also ordering 50 sheets of litho film tomorrow, too. Can you guys guess when payday is?

I built the closed loop system, protein skimmer and cast about 50 lbs of concrete rock for my saltwater aquarium. Geeky, but fun.

Jason,
Last chance liquors has all of that stuff.
They have a good selection of brewing supplies including Wy-Yeast Smack Packs. I was kinda surprised.

Sweetwaterphoto: Look into a MR. Beer setup to just get you little toe into the wonderful world of brewing. :D

Also, call Midwest brewing or Northern brewer. They sell starter kits and you get everything you need to start brewing.

Sweetwater, there is a book you need to read:

www.amazon.com/Complete-Homebrewing-Third-Harperresource-...

It will make you a better person, and at the end you will know everything you need t o know about making good beer.

"Last chance liquors has all of that stuff."

I get a little nervous about buying from Last Chance. I've gotten raunchy hops from them more than once.

Any of you guys submit your brews to BJCP competitions? I'm thinkin' that this will be the big year for me -- four years of brewing, I need some feedback!

Give me a bottle of your Dubbel and I'll get you some feedback. ;)
admin
Hambone Lewinski 10 years ago
That's right, I owe you some Dubbel. I will be doing a belgian as my next brew (after round one of my Pilsener) but I'm not sure what. Suggestions?

Kip, it looks like you're getting my last Dubbel. It's on my kitchen table for you, I'll hand it off next time I see you.

Yeah, we are just brewing the kits from Northern Brewer with the hops pellets and Malt Extract, once we get that nailed we will move onto trying to brew from scratch.

Shawn,

I do all grain, and if you ever want to give it a shot I can lend you my gear so you can try it without buying in.

All-grain vs. extract is a bit like film vs. digital. In reality, it's a matter of personal preference, but people like to get all fired up and pretend that all-grain is better just because it takes longer. In reality, if you take two accomplished homebrewers -- one all-grain and one extract -- the difference between the two is so subtle that almost no one could tell the difference.

(Like film vs. digital, I tend to jokingly poke fun at extract brewers, but just like photography the proof is in the final product.)

So if you ever want to try all-grain brewing, let me know. It might be for you and it might not.
