"PS, what does this have to do with photography? ;) "
Oh, for an extra $50 to spend on videogames... I don't have Super Mario Galaxy, either, although I did give myself shoulder and back pain for more than a week by playing it @ gamestop while wearing a heavy camera around my neck.
"Tetris is the best game ever. I doubt there will ever be another game as universally appealing and addictive as Tetris."
OK. Geek fight.
There are so many things wrong with this statement. First of all, in the same genre, Dr. Mario is clearly more fun than Tetris. There's no contest, really.
Second, I have trouble identifying what the best game ever is, but I know there are several old school Nintendo titles that are WAY better than Tetris OR Dr. Mario. The Legend of Zelda and the original Super Mario Bros. both come to mind. Bubble Bobble is pretty freakin' sweet, too.
The reason I say that Tetris is the best game ever is that no other game has permeated the general culture like Tetris. It is universally intuitive -- not just to people who play video games all the time. You'll never see a senior citizen playing Legend of Zelda or Super Mario (well, not for awhile anyway).
I'm not saying other games aren't more fun to play. But Tetris is genius in its ability to effortlessly worm its way into the human mind -- any human mind.
Honestly, though, I don't have anything emotionally invested in this idea. I just threw it out there as a thought.
I actually played Mario Cart on my buddy's Wii (<- insert joke here) last night, and while it WAS fun, we raced all the tracks on all the unlocked circuits, and that was about enough. For some reason, I just can't get into the games with the cast of "Mario" characters... too "kiddie" for me, I think... That being said, I spent just an absurd amount of time playing the various Ratchet and Clank games on the PS2.
