So yesterday i took the financial leap and bought my first D-SLR. I ended up getting a Canon EOS Rebel XT 8MP, 18-55mm zoom lens.

Now I want someone to tell me that i picked out a good first camera.

You picked out an awesome camera setup. You are going to love it.

That lens will cover you for everything from landscapes to portraits.

Do not hesitate to ask any questions, no matter how dumb you think they may be, they aren't.

Congrats!

your icon pic doesn't look like you. your icon pic looks threatening, but you look like a non-threatening Oliver Platt.

My dad also got this camera upon recommendation and loves it! Good choice... just wait until you feel the need to getting another lens or two... it's a very slippery slope. :D

oooooh, you really should read the manual. I know it seems trivial and stupid, but really it will help you out.
Please read it first!

Congrats! And read the manual!

I also approve, and don't read the manual. It's more fun to learn without it.

i do plan to read the manual as i wouldn't get very far without it.

I started out with a rebel, and its basically the same as my 30D. They are very good camera. the only reason I switched to the 30D was because Im clumsy and my X-wife thought I would be better off with a metal frame camera. Sometimes, she was soo smart! :)

And, since you went with Canon, if you want to try out any of my lenses just let me know. And as with everyone else, id be happy to answer any questions.
Sooo, lets see some photos!
