Hard Drive?

So my back up 200gig internal hard drive is screaming at me. I am planing on getting an external 500gig hard drive but reading reviews about the Seagate or the Western digital gives me mixed feelings.. Any recommendations from you tech nerds out there? I want something 1st of all that will last a long time. I also want something that has a good warranty. Who is the most dependable on those two topics?

Seagate is the #1 hard drive manufacturer in the world.
I bought a Seagate Free Agent external drive and I love it.

P.S. I also just bought a 5400rpm 250gb internal Western Digital drive from new egg for my laptop for $135.

Both are great brands, if I could have found a seagate for my laptop at that price point I would have got it.

seagate does get better reviews... however... they all have good warranties...

so. western digital is much less expensive, and "good enough".

buy.com has 500GB disks for $100. BUY TWO. use one for a backup. the other for the primary.

My advice is to get whatever, but get two. Two back up drives are way better than one.

for hardrives... the warranty isnt the selling point... the 'not having to use the warranty' is much much more important...

Thanks all. I have a winner. SEAGATE

for my external and a seagate 160 internal along with my 80gig seagate that is my operating HD.
Thanks all

If I'd gotten to this thread in time, I would have recommended a LaCie.

It's what I use while I'm waiting for the 1 terrabyte Time Capsule price to go down.

lacie!? FARK LaCie! I had two of their hard drives, and both of them crashed and burned in under 6 months. I had a lot of data on them that could not be rescued.
Though, after much bitching, the did send me a check for what I payed for both hard drives. So, I guess they arent so bad after all.

Hm. I've had one for three years, and another for 1.5 years, and never had a problem. (Knock wood).

may have been a bad batch?

I am guessing so. LaCie drives are supposed to be great, especially their RAID Externals.
