Show opening

Tomorrow night at Washington Galleries. Travis is a wonderful large format nature photographer and a freind. We will be there at his opening tomorrow and would love to see all of you there! Here is the info from the man himself:

A two-person show, "Medium" opens at Washington Galleries in March.
David Gross will be exhibiting new environment based paintings, heavily influenced by the Abstract Expressionist Genre. Through these works the artist presents the viewer with recognizable images from nature and attempts to make them see a larger picture.

Large format nature photographer Travis Melin will be showing recent works and debuting images from his collection of the Lake Superior region.

An opening reception for "Medium" will be held Friday March 7th, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Washington Galleries. The exhibition will be on display March 7-30. Gallery hours are: Saturday and Sunday, 1-5pm.

For further information contact Travis Melin at 218-343-9527

Interesting. Last night Rachel and I were talking about going to see what might be @ Washington galleries (I've never been there) this weekend.

I might have to check this out, about a month ago I was talking with a friend of mine who paints landscapes about setting up a dual show together.
I have seen some of Travis's stuff in the local canal park galleries. he has some impressive work.

Anyone one else ever find it odd how Large Format and ULF Photographers always seem to work that fact into what they call themselves, while no one else really does? Sometimes I'll hear "I'm a digital photographer", but I never hear people say "I'm a Multi-Format Photographer", or "I'm a SLR Photographer" or "I'm a Full Sensor CMOS Photographer."

That being said, knowing it is Large Format work makes me want to go because I know I won't be sitting there looking for tell tales signs of the format and play the "Guess the Format" game like I typically end up doing when I come across work where the format isn't explicitly listed somewhere.
