PCAE Artists Interview

My admissions interview for the Perpich Center for Arts highschool is coming up on the eighth of march. Of course I have my ideas as to what photos I'd like to bring down to represent my portfolio, but I wanted everyones opinions. Any photos in particular I should bring?

And more importantly... ones I shouldn't?

ive been to an art school portfolio review and id say what they look for most is consistency in your photos, avoid one's with you in them, but have ones where you went out and conveyed a specific idea with your photos in your own style. most importantly be able to tell them the statement the photos are making.

Well I've had portfolio reviews with art colleges and I think I've got it down. I'm just looking for opinions on actual individual photographs I guess .

Hah, thanks randeeze, for the intellectual piece of conversation.
Really all I want anyone to do is tell me which photos suck ass and which photos I should bring with me.

I ordered a nice leather portfolio for $100.
I'm excited :D

I think that it is more important that you are able to describe, defend and understand your own work to really impress art folk. More later, I'll bug Rachel to see if she has any thoughts on this.

Hey,

Rachel peeked in at your photostream and read this thread. Since you've done some portfolio reviews, esp. MCAD, Rachel was pretty confident that you know what to expect and know how to defend your work. She and I really like your snapshot aesthetic self portraits like "Black Wave", "Myxomatosis" (great tune, BTW), and "Driven". I personally enjoy your use of color manipulation, and think that it would be great if you included some of your color photos to illustrate that body of work.

In my opinion, your strongest work is when you take photos of people, yourself or others. I would avoid photos like, "Red Lion Wall" and most of the friends-goofing-around photos like "Emma" and traditional portraits like "Naomi III"... not because they're bad photos, but because I think that they are not cohesive with what I consider to be your best work (as mentioned above).

Finally, I LOVE "Vintage" and "Club Saratoga Cigarettes". I don't know if you are going to include them or not, but they're some of my favorite photos that I've seen on this group.

Good luck! I hope you get in, your work is good. Every time I dig through your photos stream, I decide that I'm not extending my creativity enough, not stepping far enough out of my comfort zone.

Thank you Jason :)
Really.
I must admit I think I can defend my work pretty well...
I just thought it would be nice to get opinions from my fellow dpg members as well.
I agree with you on which photos are stronger then others,
and I'll definitely take your choices into consideration.

Thank you again :)

Oh shit, I went to high school at PCAE. Best time of my life. Good luck! You should message me if you have any questions. Say hello to the 200 gallon fish tank in the Dorms, I had to write a fricking grant to get money for that.
