I just switched from firefox to Safari and I'm really pleased, everything is faster by far...
Just wondering if anyone else uses Safari with windows?

Its sad how much slower firefox has become. I have not tried safari though.

Yah when it came out it was like warp speed and was everything that IE wasn't...

yeah, its still pretty secure vs. IE. But damn, it takes to long! I may change over soon. There is another browser I used when I had my OQO. it was super fast. Ill have to dig it out...

As the local Free Software geek, let me point out that Firefox 3, which is in beta right now, is much speedier!

Eh, I'm a Firefox devotee. I have so much stuff set up in Firefox just the way I like it and it would have to take a lot to get me switch to another browser.

I use safari on the Mac, for windows I use Firefox 3 or Opera depending on my mood

The funny thing is that I had firefox all rigged to be the way I wanted it to be and I dl'd Safari and pretty much everything is the same except faster. You can still mod it like you can with firefox, I just dont like the gray bar at the top...
Jason-safari is free? If firefox 3 is as you say it is and it's nice and quick I will probably switch back...

I use Safari...with a mac. It's way faster than firefox, and I have less problems with it.

"Jason-safari is free?"

I actually mean "free as in freedom"... Free Software is a term that is used to describe software in which the code is openly available to anyone who wants it. Another term that is used is Open Source.

I never liked firefox for some reason. It always made me feel gross using it. I always use safari or opera. Except when neither works for whatever I'm doing "like my online math homework" then I use internet explorer.

Opera user since 2000.

I have some weird, illogical funk against Apple products. Using them just makes me feel like less of a human.

I'm not a fan of apples, I had a quad g4 a while back, it was a good consistent computer but I switched back to windows...I don't have a problem with either, they both have their ups and downs...

yeah, i really have firefox setup like i like it. I did read firefox vs 3 was going to be better, so i guess i can wait. besides, if i change, i have to re-set up everything again...

Sjixxy, come over here so I can slap you silly, tie you in a chair, and make you watch every ipod commercial there ever was.

I'm such a mac fanatic I'm excited that Jason Long and Drew Barrymore are together.

Ok Sjixxy, maybe I'm the one that needs to be punished.

"I have some weird, illogical funk against Apple products. Using them just makes me feel like less of a human."

Interesting. Here's my preferred arrangement:

-- Linux on the desktop (Ubuntu for me).
-- OS X on the laptop.
-- Windows on the nothing.

...But I'm pretty flexible. Heck, I even keep a Windows install on my machine at work in case I encounter some proprietary piece-of-garbage software (they almost always ARE garbage, too) that I have to run to support my users/proprietary vendors.

I'm not a "zealot", I swear... unless you consider feeling that MS makes an intolerable crummy product zealotry.

That seems to be the trend these days : ) Ill just sit to the side with my A100 and MSN and watch. It's nice when the minority can fly below the radar.

And giggle to himself.

I really don't like linux. And I don't really have a reason.
We have mostly linux computers at school....maybe I'm just used to them not working.
Windows is just out of the picture for me.
MAC<3

Plus I'm totally attracted to all the funky modern shit they keep adding to their programing. Then naming it even cooler shit like PANTHER. Haha.

No... it's just I grew up with a shitty little mac with shitty little logos.
How can you not love something that's always been there for you??

I've seen EPIC mac failure...We (our high school) went to a photography competition every year and the 2nd year I went they added a video competition and we had 4 teams, 3 of them were using their mac's they brought with (creative suite, final cut, etc) and one XP pro comp. Long story and long night of work put short, the macs all got the gray screen of death everytime they tried to export the video...Windows prevailed this time and everyone ended up exporting on the XP lappy...
The mac I had was ok, it didnt fail often but it was still less reliable than my current windows lappy...

Another mac story, we had a single mac in our schools AVID lab and you like touched the wrong key at the wrong time and that thing would crash...it was old as hell though and it did have real AVID on it...i can only imagine that rapes memory which wouldnt be good on that old thing

Wap, It doesn't matter what platform you're on; if you max out any computer's resources it will crash. Exporting video is one of the most demanding tasks you can do on a computer. I'm guessing the PC had a lot more RAM and processing power than the Macs, making them better suited for such a job.

I love my Powerbook, though a decent PC running Ubuntu, which I've also used and enjoyed, is a great option for those on a budget. Windows of all makes just feels like the AOL of operating systems.

Anyhow, regarding the orginal question, I still prefer Firefox to Safari, which I've always found kind of buggy.

lol, the windows lappy had 4 gigs and i think the most the macs had were 2, yes i know that it owns memory, I was just making the point that yes, macs can still fail and people dont think they ever get the "blue screen of death", they get the "gray screen of death" or the neverending spinning wheel :P

In the words of a great thinker I used to work for:
"Whats better about that other computer? I turn mine on, I do my work, it gets me the porn I want, I print stuff out. It does what I need to do."

All OS are flawed. End of story. Which ever one you want to go with to "get your porn" then go with it. no matter what you have, in a few months, it will be obsolete.
