I won't lie, this post is love for jnovek . But shareing is caring right? So instead of a private message, I'll keep it open and share the love.

Aftermath of a Ronsonal bath with an isopropyl chaser on one of my shutters that was behaving rather gummy :D

I wonder if all that black crap could have been contributing to the problem?

What do you use to re-lubricate it?

No lubing yet. It is my dedicated 135mm w/flash shutter, so as long as it continues to open, close, and release the flash, that is all the accuaracy I really need.

If it continues to not close, or has other weird effects, then I think about some lube. But so far it is firing just peachy.

You wouldn't happen to have some nyoil or anything just sitting around, so if I do need to relube, I don't have to buy a huge bottle to use less then a ml of eh?

Most folks don't recommend re-lubing these old leaf shutters. They seem to operate well without lubrication, and there is too big a chance that you will get oil and the blades. Have you speed tested it yet?

(Sidebar -- a friend lent me an old Kodak 3-A... a camera that took roll film almost as big as 4x5. I would like to test the shutter speeds on it, so can you lend me your shutter speed tester thingy sometime?)

Just tested it. /1400th is running about 1/200, 1/200th is running about 1/125th, and 100 and beyond is close enough. Then I tested the identical shutter that I had professionaly serviced last summer. Times match across the board. So I'll credit the slowing to loss in spring tension, and say it is just about right for a shutter of this vintage.

You can use the shutter testy thingy sometime. But, when? That is the million dollar question.

You mean that the shutter you had done by pros was on the money? Or the same as your "home" servicing? I would love to see where my bessa is at... esp. because 1/400 is on a separate spring

...Perhaps we can do some shooting this weekend and I can get it from you then, and give it back to you @ the meeting?

I'd be down for shotting this weekend, as long as it isn't a trillion below.

I'm really determined to get get my Speed Graphic technique perfected and have been doing some work on the camera to bring flash back into the equation. I think it may be required to bring the shooting speed that I'm looking for into the equation when it isn't a nice sunny16 out.

Hopefully I can get everything I need to get done to use it with flash by this weekend.
