has anybody ever had any experience w/ lomography and the use of any lomography cameras, holga's in particular?

i've been reading about it and have been very intrigued myself and i'm thinking of buying a holga off ebay. they're less then $35.

here are a few links if you are curious about lomography and holga's in particular

I never really bought into it. They always seemed like an art school gimmick to me.

We had a conversation about Holgas at the last meeting -- because of the trend, Holgas have at least tripled in price in the last few years. So I am saying how rediculously expensive the camera is for the lack of any quality -- but that is the draw, you don't really know what you will end up with.

I think it has a place and can be a fun diversion, but I will use my old box cameras from the 70's (which you can borrow, if you want) and get much the same result.

Bottom line is that you still have to have an eye for interesting composition, etc. to get interesting images.

Smear vaseline on your D80 lens, then Crinkle up some saran wrap and stick it over the lens and shoot away. lol, J/K

Honestly, to me, the resulting images from holgas just look like
mis-focus accidents, only worse.

To each their own though.

My guidance counseler just randomly intoduced me to lomography.

I guess I could be dubbed as one of those art school kids who buys into those gimmicks because I think it's pretty cool.

Not for everyday work, but for once in awhile.
It's like taking a picture and getting a surprise out of it ^_^

i personally love the look of the holga shots. the vignetting and extreme color and contrast shots are [imo] worth the $. also being made of plastic is simply hilarious.

that's just me though. as shawn said "to each their own..."

i was shooting some 35mm tonight while putting up christmas ornaments. i haven't done a lot of film but i am really starting to enjoy it. it feels like i am actually "taking pictures" lol more than w/ digital.

I've seen a lot of really cool lomo stuff, as well as some not-so-cool lomo stuff. (Just like I've seen some fantastic digital stuff, and some not-so fantastic digital stuff.)

I'm not in art school and am not into gimmicks, and I am quite interested in lomography. I've been pricing lomo cameras for awhile now and am hoping to get one in the next few months. My first will be a PoP 9, not for any real artistic value, but just because they are so fun!

I received a fisheye lomo as a gift a while back. Its all true- the good and not so good. Fun diversion. Construction is worse than a disposable- the rewind mechinism doesn't always engage properly, so expect some ruined - or artfully distressed ;) - film. I laugh when I think about what goes on in the factory - "you idiots! this is too good! make it crappier!"

I'll post a couple shots straight out the camera.

No more then the Gold Leica

Lomo photo walk maybe fun, just as long as you don't exclude me for not buying into the lomographic society's marketing hype and can use something besides a Lomo/Holga. It would give me a reason to use the plastic lens 35mm (complete with fake plastic buldge where a motor drive would be present on a real camera), or this odd metal cast iron camera that looks like it was manufactured for about $0.35 in 1929 Russia. (Assuming I can ever force the screws that hold the back onto it open to actually load the bugger)

hahaha "...fake plastic buldge where a motor drive would be present on a real camera..."

all are invited...even those who decide to shoot w/ real cameras lol

We really do need to do another photo walk soon, lomo or not. It's been awhile.
