Independence
The winner of last month's competition has so declared, and I bumped her to admin status, so if she wants to muck with the monthly rules for this so be it.

Can't make it tonight... so sorry... however, I want to chime in on what I think about this months submissions... I really like all of them. Good work on the capture and production of the above...

Now, the however... although I like them all... I am having some difficulty reading the minds of the photographer... it would have been useful for me if you gave me some ideas... perhaps some reason *why* you feel that your submission demonstrates "Independence".

Some I see as solitude, or isolation... but not as Independence. Now... I will also say that I am both willing and interested in being convinced... however, I need to be.

So, if I were to vote via proxy (not that you would allow for it... but *if* you were to allow it...) I would vote as follows... for the subject of Independence, as it fits *my* concept...

1) Barrett's Truck. What can be more "Independence" than the view of the local red neck, who paints his 1956 Ford F100 with Red White and Blues? Well... maybe more Independence would be the same truck with the Union Jack. No, I don't subscribe to this mentality... but I can understand it.

2) Sweetlake biwinged flyer. Maybe a bit too "motivational" for me... but I still like it.

3) HBR Man vs. Lake in contemplation. Even though I am not into the "motivational photo" stuff... it works.

What else do I like? Do you care? Well... I love signs... so neon is good... but too obvious I suppose. I like Nikki's belt... mostly I suppose because I know her personally, and she is independent through and through... and lays down a mean mean bass track... Stella exploring her independence... I have more comments... but gotta run to a meeting now...

Enjoy the beer and bevs... and all that crap...rtn

What I was going for in my shot was the only Angular Ice chunk that is standing up is independent of the other ice chunks that are just laying down.
Maybe i mis-read into this theme. Was it supposed to represent the red-white and blue? Or was it open to interpretation?

i don't believe that there was limitations to the theme. and no, i don't believe that red what and blue represent independence. they can, but they don't have a lock on it. i was looking for some help from the artists... to better understand how they saw their photo fitting the theme. i can get the definition from the web, assuming i did not understand it... however, the web likely cannot help me better understand the submission. so, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the ice thing. and thanks for sharing the photo too.

To explain my photo a bit, as a stay at home mother to four children I am always with them. I rarely have time just for myself without other people around. When I do have those rare moments alone I feel free. I can go where I want, I can turn my music up loud (or turn off the stereo if I want quiet), or as in my photo, I can stand and enjoy the peace. I can be alone with just my thoughts, while freezing my ass off in the cold outdoors to take photos without having to worry about my little ones being too cold, bored, hungry, etc. Those are rare moments of independence for me, which is what I was trying to portray in my photo.

Rich,

Sorry to be too motivational ;-)

For me my picture represents flying (or escaping, see a mother's soul) independent of the man, who pays me to fly into the sunset but tells me where to go. This guy's going where he wants. I like the sunset, too.

I had the same thoughts as you, as did most of the crowd last night. We missed you. Edge's cookies are awesome.
