So it has come to my attention that one of my coworkers has his father's old Leica kit that his is going to try and get rid off. But before he sells, he is going to let me give it a look over and run a few rolls through, and most likely give me an option to buy it at a decent price so that he knows it will still be in capable hands being used instead of being shelved as a collecter's item.

For those of you who aren't in the know, Leica rangefinders are pretty much the Roll's Royce of 35mm bodies, and the glass is pretty much regarded as the best for the format ever. It is the camera that pretty much synonymous with the term "Street Photography." I haven't shot anything in probably three months, but this notion of gettign my hands on this really has my photo itch flaring up again. (darkroom should be back in service later this week)

No point here really. I'm just giddy like a school boy to finally get my hands on a Leica and see what kind of results they are capable of first hand. I've dabbled with the really cheap alternative with OK results. I just can't wait to get my hands on the best of the best gear and see how much better it technically looks.

I have always wondered about the comparison of one of these to a "regular" film camera, digital camera, even to medium format film. Any interest in doing a test such as this? I would like to do a rather comprehensive test shooting a test pattern (which I have and have done for my lenses) and testing how it compares when the film is scanned, as well as direct printed.

My initial idea when I get my hands on it is to load it, and my SLR with identical brands of film. Walk around are match each frame in each camera using matching f-stops for every shot. Develop them in the same tank at the same time, and then compare. Scanned & traidtional prints of some of thd matching frames.

I've always read that the difference can be seen at the negative level on teh lightbox. I'm really curious to see this first hand.

I figured that you would tell us before you get the chance to show us, but, yes, I would be very interested in seeing the prints.
