I bought a Dynatran Tripod AT-828bl kit about a year ago (came with a Pistol Grip Action ball head). It is very sturdy.

You can look on www.amvona.com to find a model you want. Then look the model # up on ebay. Amvona has an Ebay store that sells their products for far, far less.

I see they are selling this model very cheap right now. cgi.ebay.com/PROFESSIONAL-PHOTO-CAMERA-TRIPOD-KIT-BALL-HE...

Ballhead Supports 8.8lbs and the package weighs less than 5lbs.

I would put mine up against a Bogen/Manfrotto, Slik, etc.. of equal specs.

Generally The bids take off close to auction end. If you are patient you will be able to pick one up for less than $65 shipped.

Dang! No, it wasn't me. We left the house for a few hours and I forgot to put a bid in before we left.

Lucky for you they run auctions all the time.

Some are less sturdy than others, just take a look at each one and see if it is what you are looking for.

I have the AT-828BL it is a bit heavy but very sturdy.

I'll keep checking. I really need a tripod. I took more night shots tonight and while I got a few that turned out good it was a huge PITA without a tripod. It involves me gripping, propping, and not so much as breathing for the entirety of the exposure.

Keep in mind some have a geared center column (you crank it up to the height you want. Some have the regular center column (loosen a screw and adjust the column's height.
I have the screw adjustment type. I cut my column down to about 6 inches so I could get my tripod almost all the way to the ground for really low perspetive shots.
