I converted this thread into a discussion for wide angle lenses.

Share information about wide angle lenses you own or wide angles you want to buy.

24mm or wider only please.

Not yet, but that is the plan.

Which lens do you have in mind? I'm saving up for a nice wide angle for my k10d but I don't know which one would be best for me.

My first choice is the Pentax 12-24mm - It is a Supreme Lens.

2nd is the sigma 15-30mm it's supposed to be an excellent lens and very sharp.

The sigma 10-20mm is supposed to be excellent if you can get a good copy. I have read several reviews and it seems most people who bought the lens had to ship it in 1-3 times before they got a good copy of the lens. Once you get a good copy it is supposed to be really sharp.

i just got the 10-20 and have been pretty happy with it. Mine's for canon, and i haven't heard of the issue you brought up about getting a good copy. I've had a little trouble with sharpness messing around, but i've had good results too.

time will tell.

thanks for that. I need to do some testing.

speaking of which, I'm new to all this and beyond simply using the lens, are there some test/suggestions to make sure my lens is fully functioning?

I assume if it was flawed, I'd notice right off the bat...

I am not sure about tests. I am pretty new to photography and that is one reason I would stay away from the lens. I would be afraid I couldn't tell if it was a bad copy.

i don't shot a lot of wide angle shots myself.

however, i love aaron's fisheye.

if i was going to buy a wide angle, i'd go real wide (ex: 10, 12, somewhere in there).

that's just my few cents.

SHAWN, i know what you mean, but a little bit of that is, if you can't tell, where's the harm?

I want lens' i know work well, but really if I can't see it, I wouldn't know there's something wrong.

I've been using that lens almost exclusively for the past few days, and am not seeing any issues.

If you want to try it, let me know. Obviously it won't mount to your body, but you can walk around with mine.

I've got a über-cheap sigma 18-50 3.5 canon mount as well. Was my first lens purchase. Liked it alot for walking around. felt pretty solid for being $130 iirc.

I agree Dub,
Some of the photographer's on FredMiranda.com are real elitist snobs and gear heads. So i take some of their comments with a grain of salt, but i have a Sigma 24-135mm lens and i have had to ship it in 4 times in less than a year, so i believe their Quality Assurance sucks.
